AC Milan are left with few options now with Mike Maignan, due to his move to Chelsea breaking down. However, a decision has already been made.
The situation with Maignan is challenging, and even then, that feels like not enough. Milan are faced with three options: sell, renew, or lose. In each situation, there are issues, and the simple fact of the situation is this, it could have been prevented.
We only need to go back a few months to remember when the agreements were made, but it was the Rossoneri who pulled out. So, the refusal to re-enter negotiations now is no shock, really.
Heading towards goodbye
Once the mercato opens again, Chelsea may attempt again. Alternatively, the Diavolo may throw their hopes blindly at a renewal. However, the most likely situation, according to this morning’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below), states that he will leave for nothing next summer.
The reason why? Massimiliano Allegri is convinced that he can make him the ‘new strength’ of his team. A heavily defence-oriented team is expected, and it is expected to be the case again in Milan. So, having a goalkeeper like the Frenchman is a substantial aid.
Furthermore, his technical and leadership qualities are heavily appreciated. So, Allegri hopes to re-settle the goalkeeper, who has been left feeling frustrated by the events of this season, largely due to the failed renewal talks.
Another chance
It seems, at least for now, the move to Chelsea will not happen, at least not this summer. So, a new operation is hoped to open in the walls of Casa Milan. In the summer, the goalkeeper will turn 30, so there is not fear around the club. Instead, there is a greater feeling that goodbye for nothing may be worth more than a long contract.
Of course, things can still change, and if Maignan’s performances return to their previous levels, everything could be shaken up. All parties must do their bit, and who knows, the 2026 expiry may not be feared, but welcomed at the end of May next year. Alternatively, we may look back on these moments and reminisce on the what-ifs.

“…the 2026 expiry may not be feared, but welcomed at the end of May next year. Alternatively, we may look back on these moments and reminisce on the what-ifs.”
Excuses. This is solely on Furlani and his decision to withdraw his contract offer. It’s totally unprofessional from him and unacceptable for a club like AC Milan. Yet these clowns will keep their jobs. Peak comedy.
This post makes you sound like a Karen 🤣
“It’s totally unprofessional…” blah blah blah. Contract disputes are as common as they are annoying for the fans. One could argue it totally professional to reconsider a contract offer following poor results in a results based business. You call for managements heads with their mistakes, while mike’s over here punting the ball off Thiaw’s head. When players play poorly for long stretches it’s not crazy to rethink things.
It’s Maldini’s fault that they can not sell their stars for big money… oh wait…
Who’s left for free?
Han vill inte vara här. Punkt
paradoxically other clubs don’t to pay big money for our players. for Rijnders they paid a lot (because of future bonuses), but still it was not enough if we would compared with other players on the market. that could be effect of last terrible season for AC Milan.
.
Maignan? great goalkeeper, but he doesn’t want to stay with us. we want players who loves the our club, feels as the part. the price is not good enough? I think that sth between 18-25 mln euro should satisfied club, eventually some bonuses. let’s say goodbye to Mike. the same as to Rafael Leao and few others.
Leao – Gimenez
Pulisic
Ricci* – Wieffer* – Fofana
Pavlovic – Gabbia – Lucumi* – Dodo*
Maignan
subs: Leoni, Modric, Fazzini, Caviglia, Raspadori, Vlahovic
loan return: Adli, Zeroli
and one thing more. who could be the replacement? all great goalkeepers are very expensive, especially Italians. but I think that Bulka from Nice is the best Polish goalkeeper of young generation, still not so expensive. his strength is also very good value for Polish market and the one of the biggest fun club AC Milan in Europe. please don’t lose this brand value on this market for Inter.
.
other option could be De Gea.
VMS is 20m, had better stats than Maignan last season, and is one year younger.
If you think he is anywhere near Maignan, football is not the sport for you. Go watch cricket.
King, are u dreaming
