ML: Why Brahim Diaz must see De Ketelaere’s arrival as a positive one

By Isak Möller -

The imminent arrival of Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge will inevitably make it difficult for Brahim Diaz to keep his spot in AC Milan’s starting XI. However, he needs to see this as a positive development.

It’s no secret that Diaz has struggled to perform on a high level since he got Covid-19 at the start of last season. In fact, towards the end of the season, Stefano Pioli preferred to start either Franck Kessie or Rade Krunic in the No.10 role.

The Spaniard, who has one year left on his loan, must turn the page and show his qualities this season. With the arrival of De Ketelaere at the club, this is easier said than done for the Real Madrid man but it could actually help him, as MilanLive highlights.

Healthy competition is always necessary at a top club and the presence of CDK will surely push Diaz to work even hard in training and when given the chance. Furthermore, all of the pressure will not be on Diaz this season as opposed to last term, with everyone focused on CDK.

Finally, the two players are slightly different in terms of characteristics and thus Pioli could change things up depending on the opponent. Diaz has every reason to believe and, above all, continue to work hard.

  1. I just saw the joke of the week. A Dutch pundit said De Ketelaere is making the mistake of the year choosing Milan over Leeds ahahhaha

    1. I was mad when I first saw the article. The guy was talking about the “meagre” salary we were offering vs the about 70k he could have earned at leeds, being coached by bielsa and how beautiful the football they play is. I wanted to leave them a stinker, but left it. I would have to register on their forum to do that, and I was not going to register on a Leeds fan forum. Never worth it. They are just pissed he chose us. Leeds can never be at our level. If not for our cash crunch, how else would we be dragging a transfer target with a small club like Leeds. Apparently, Leeds did not get the.memo: money can’t buy everything

  2. Sure, because the competition at Real Madrid made him thrive! He’s a wimp. Two big clubs have shown him the door. That tells you all you need to know. He’s had ONE good month.

  3. He should see it as a positive one because he is thinking about the fans and he is glad we wont have to watch him every week pretend to be a footballer

    1. I believe you are correct.
Ibra know the game and is intelligent. I’m not saying Giroud is not. It’s just Ibra is constantly teaching on the field. That being said, it appears as if Diaz cannot think for himself on the field. He lacks size as well. Constantly getting pushed off of the ball.
