MN: Ballon d’Or inclusion may seem forced but career peak is in Kjaer’s favour

By Isak Möller -

Simon Kjaer was named in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or yesterday and for the AC Milan fans, it’s music to their ears. Despite what some have said about the matter, his inclusion might not be that forced.

As highlighted by MilanNews, many will see the inclusion as a ‘political decision’. However, if we look at the facts, Kjaer had the best season of his career. It culminated in a second-place finish for Milan and then there was the Euros.

Denmark went to the semi-finals and Kjaer was the true leader in what was a very difficult time. As the captain, Simon led the red and white side to a very good summer. Not just for the players, but for the whole nation.

In 2021, Kjaer has always played at a very high level, both with Milan and Denmark. Credit must be given to Stefano Pioli who, in addition to improving the style of play, has made the most of every single player in the squad.

Kjaer has become a key player for Milan who today can afford to dream about the Scudetto. The centre-back has shown his true worth in Italy, although he’s no longer very young and has suffered a few more injuries. In his future, despite his contract expiring next June, he sees only red and black.
