After the rumours surfaced a few days ago, the operation has now seemingly been completed: Pepe Reina will join Aston Villa. In other words, AC Milan are continuing their cleanout of the squad this January transfer window.
According to MilanNews.it, confirmations have arrived from the club. The Spanish goalkeeper will move to the Premier League side on loan until the end of the season, which presumably (depending on the agreement) will save Milan some wages.
The Rossoneri are now expected to look for a goalkeeper, as Antonio Donnarumma isn’t considered good enough to be the backup for his brother, Gigio. According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, they could bring in Emiliano Viviano on a six-month deal.
However, as we reported yesterday, Boban and Maldini are also keeping their eyes on Marco Sportiello. The 27-year-old has only made two appearances for Atalanta this season and could be allowed to leave on a loan.
