Luka Jovic has been one of the best AC Milan players in the last few games, bagging two goals, and he has sent a clear message to the head coach Sergio Conceicao.
Following an early substitution of Yunus Musah last night, in the 2-2 draw against Fiorentina, Conceicao decided to put Jovic on the pitch as second striker. He ended up scoring the deicisve equaliser, bagging his second goal in as many games.
As highlighted by MilanNews, it was a sublime performance from the Serbian, who found space between the lines and often dropped down to help. It was a match that displayed all the (hidden) talent of Jovic who, let’s remember, played for Real Madrid five years ago.
He will be decisive for Milan in the season finale, above all in the Coppa Italia, as Santiago Gimenez has struggled to have the desired impact. Furthermore, Jovic seems to be working very well alongside Tammy Abraham, who has been in great form lately as well.
“I feel better when I play with another striker, because I can act as a second striker, with more freedom of movement. I don’t have the physical structure to carry the attack alone. I’m not that type of player. I can attack the depth five times in a game, but not twenty-five times. And this is precisely one of the aspects that put me in difficulty at Fiorentina,” he said to MozzartSport recently.
In other words, Jovic has provided Conceicao with the recipe and now it remains to be seen if the Portuguese manager will continue on this path. It would certainly make sense to give the Serbian more time from start as well.
Jovic more often than not scores as a second striker. Every time he flopped was when he started as the sole striker. Leao handicaps this set up though as you can’t have a solid defensive and pressing phase with him on the field.
So bench him. Play someone whos actually willing to defend, and will actually complete their passes. Sottil is rotting on the bench and would definitely put in more effort
Damn right, a 2 striker system with Jovic.
if Leao could really apply himself -off the ball- in the defensive phase, he would be really dangerous on the left or beside Jovic.
We saw this yesterday, Jovic’s brilliant holdup play, strength on the ball, decision making, timing, and brilliant passes to Leao.
This team can compete for the tittle only if the midfield and defense is sorted and all forwards play with the same intent we saw from jovic yesterday.
“I don’t have the physical structure to carry the attack alone. I’m not that type of player. ”
LOL!!!!!!! Now he says the same fng thing I’ve been saying for years and the “experts” here laughed at my comments. Anyone want to admit being wrong????? Yeah, didn’t think so. Pssies… 😀 😀 😀
I told you guys many times here in the comments… Jovic is super efficient considering the time/minutes he was given to play. If he got as much time as other forwards in ACM did Jovic would have been our top striker for sure with at least 15 goals in 30 games. Easily. But one game he doesn’t score and coaches write him off!? That’s insane. How many times Abraham, Camarda, that spanish guy and others played a game and didn’t score? Countless of times. And no one wrote them off! Coaches are heavily undervaluing and in the same time disrespecting Jovic. He is an excellent striker. He just need a true chance to play continuosly. And support. But they keep benching him and put him o the market after every single game he didn’t score. Remember Inzaghi? What was his impact when he didn’t score? Zero. Nothing. Yet, they kept pushing him and eventually he became one of the crucial players in the team. Did Inzaghi ever scored 20 goals in a season for ACM? No he didn’t. I don’t think he even scored 15 goals in a season. But he always played. He always got a chance. In my opinion Jovic has even better hunch for goals but he just didn’t get a true chance to show his talent and skills. It’s useless to buy and sell players in the forward department. We have a great scorer already. Camarda was introduced massively as the future, yet he didn’t prove anything. Gimenez scored a goal or two so far and was paid 35 milions??? He seems quite lost. Abraham is more disaster than not. That spanish guy is sold already etc. All of them got much more chance than Jovic and proved nothing. Jovic gots just a few minutes and he immediately proves himself. And then in the next game – he is again on the bench!!! Insanity.
just put Leao as a part of two strikers then
Yes, my toughts too, Leao just doesnt have the stamina to come back and then sprint forward all game.
If i could choose i would go for a 442 with Felix/Sottil LM ,Pulisic RM ,Jović or Abraham as False 9 and Leao as “poacher”,he just waits there and keeps his stamina for the sprints and dribblings on the counters when other plays defend for him.
I would play a 4, 3, 1, 2 with Leao behind 2 strikers with freedom to move.
Leao as a second strikerbhas been tried several times for Portugal and occasionally at Milan. It has never worked. He’s not the same player if he doesn’t have space to run into.
striker has*
I watched the games where he played as a striker for Portugal. Its hard for him to adopt there where everything revoles around C.Ronaldo.
I am still sure that he can be a striker,a deadly one too and can make fast accellaration and dribling the same as he would make when having more space to run into. Give him 5 games in a row as poacher and then we can talk again.
He is lost on the wing if he needs to come back, the opponents always play on his side because of that, thats why Foncesa benched him,Sergio too, he is costing us games as a winger ,he needs to be a poacher.
i dont remember him playing there for AC Milan
and I think its not really working for him as a winger
Milan management are clueless when signing players especially strikers. Abraham should be dropping deep not Jovic.
Jovic needs to play off a striker that’s why he was able to score against Fiorentina because Gimenez dropped deep and the pass went through to Jovic.
I have always said 4231 is over. Milan should switch to 442 or 4312 twin striker to find more balance
Well lets played Jovic with Abraham then.
And get Leao out, and bring Sottil in.
I think every coach (not Fonseca) is always got stuck with Milan, because they have to accomodate Leao and Theo. Thats why, when these 2 players are not in good form, we always get suffer.
I hope our next coach, will have more various tactics and formations. So, he will not hanging on Leao and Theo, Leao and Theo always. Even we know these 2 players are stars.
Next coach must have braveness to speak out on the players, and no hesitate to benched ungood players, but have variety in tactics and formations.
Management must decide too. Are they want have coach who will be loved by the players like Ancelloti or Pioli type, or the brave one coach like Klopp or Gasperini.
It’s hard to play any system and formation with this bunch.
433 – no DM
4231 – no pivots
442 – no LW (Leao is not one)
4312 – no DM and no Trequartista (Puli is not one)
Imo, 343 is our only viable and stable option currently. With no proper DM we need more bodies in the middle and so Theo and Jimenez would provide a cover on each flank.
Walker Gabbia Pavlo
Jimenez Fofana Reijnders Theo
Puli Gimenez Leao
I have been astounded that Milan did not once put in 3 CBs this entire season. It’s such an obvious choice when defense is failing every match, you don’t have a DM, and you have extra CBs.
