MN: Leao, Piatek and the possibility of co-existence – Pioli’s mission

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli is reportedly ready to tackle the challenge of fitting Rafael Leao and Krzysztof Piatek into the same team.

Pioli showed his faith in Leao as a centre-forward during Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Lecce in his first game in charge, however the Portuguese striker was wasteful despite showing good movement.

Piatek came off the bench and scored what looked to be the winner in the 81st minute with an instinctive finish typical of the Poland international, before Marco Calderoni’s 92nd minute leveller dished out more heartbreak for the Rossoneri.

According to a report from MilanNews.it, the mission is now to build a game system that can accommodate the two, enhancing without distorting the qualities of both.

The plans must try and include Hakan Calhanoglu too though, the report adds, especially given the fact that Sunday night’s game was arguably one of his best in a Milan shirt.

It seems that the expendable player at the moment is Suso, for whom the patience of the fans seems to have come to an end.

With Roma, Juventus, Lazio and Napoli to come in the next five league games and with the team currently sat in 12th, solutions must be found fast in order to ensure that fans are convinced by Pioli’s work.
