MN: Maldini breaks club policy – another decisive officiating error was the final straw

By Isak Möller -

As a result of a very poor performance, and a mistake by VAR, AC Milan only claimed one point against Udinese. It was another frustrating night, therefore, and Paolo Maldini went against club policy afterwards.

Rafael Leao gave Milan the lead in the first half but after that, the Rossoneri struggled to create chances and seemingly opted to sit back instead. Eventually, Udinese found their equaliser but it should have been disallowed for a clear handball.

As highlighted by MilanNews, one particular event that followed was the interview of Paolo Maldini with MilanTV. It was the first time that a director (since Maldini joined) took part in a post-match interview with the intention of complaining about a clear and evident refereeing error.

Milan, usually, don’t want to speak about the referees in interviews and especially not the directors of the club. After so many mistakes made in their games, though, it was the final straw and Maldini thus decided to ‘go against’ club policy. Even so, his interview was very respectful, simply arguing his case.

  1. Get over it, handball can go either way. Udinese were on top for a big portion of the game, the result was a fair one. Instead of negativity and blame, celebrate the fact the team is challenging for a title with a much lower wage budget than Inter and Juventus and fingers crossed next time the luck goes the other way (as it has many times in the past).

  2. Im not happy with Pioli. Sale and Rebic should have come in earlier, and DEFINITELY NOT when the team is defending a set piece. You never make changes in such moment! And the team needed them earlier. Diaz, Messias and Leao were too wasteful and couldnt controll the possesion.

    1. I believe the greatest downfall of Pioli is not making use of Rebic on time and refusal to play both Rebic and Leão together
Pioli is a middle table coach but I think the past glory of Milan is exactly what is pushing us forward
Against Udinese Milan was poor and if u watch clearly u will realize we are always falling like cowards whenever there’s pressure from our opponents including the lower teams
We are not yet same Milan but we are better than 3 past seasons

      1. I agree. Sometimes we miss Rebic playing as a CF. And it worked good for Brahim as well. Because Rebic prefers playing a bit back as a second AMF.

  3. U Milan fans can be hypocritical sometimes. Two past matches Milan got 2points Inter got one. We are on top of the table (which was not a realistic spot in relation to our budget and January spending. It’s sad to draw teams like this but I 100% believe in this project starting from Elliot to Gazidis Maldini Pioli and all I can say to Milan players is we are almost there guys don’t let fatigue set in and halt the dream……forza Milano

    1. What dream?? Top 4??? Inter got 1 point in two games and we got 2 points in two matches were we shot ourselves in the foot. Bro, this mentality is pretty much hideous. Keep using Inter as a yardstick and watch Napoli and maybe Juventus bump the Milan teams from 1st and 2nd position, as it seems mediocrity satisfies you.

      1. Inter’s budget is 50% higher than Milan’s. The “must win or they’re terrible and lazy” mentality is ruining modern football – sometimes a team overperforms but still doesn’t win; if you can’t see positives in that I feel sorry for you.

  4. I think the problem is, that our team is so thin and allt of injuries and players are getting tired. All other title challengers have alot more players and can switch more. All things considered we are still in title contention.

  5. Pioli!!!!
I do not think that he knows how to prepare the team. A tie with Salernitana, shame!!!
A tie with Udinese, same. He should expect that these teams will be AGGRESSIVE, therefore he should get the team READY FOR THIS.
The players were not there, period

  6. Pioli is shit manager
He has been only help Milan win to second place last season with tight budget
I would prefer other manager that get milan to fourth or sixth place with Superb purchases like Piatek Lapadula Kalinic. Also i would commend the purchase of Mattia Caldara with swap with bonucci
I too can give opinion on managers because i won FM2021 and FM2022 with Real Madrid and Barcelona using editors
