MN: Milan facing dilemma regarding four key players currently set to leave in 2021

By Oliver Fisher -

Four AC Milan players face an uncertain future at the club, a report claims, with their contracts set to expire in 2021.

A quartet of Rossoneri players will enter their final contract year this June: Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Calhanoglu, Mateo Musacchio and Ante Rebic. MilanNews have analysed each situation.

DONNARUMMA: Gianluigi Donnarumma is one of the few irreplaceable players in this Milan and certainly the one with the highest market value in the squad.

With only 12 months of his deal remaining however, it is not exactly a great situation for the Rossoneri, especially when considering that his agent is Mino Raiola.

Losing Gigio at a low figure, or even for free in 2021, would be simply madness. Renewal should be a top priority for the club’s leadership, even if at the very last it means they can command an acceptable fee should he wish to leave.

REBIC: The Croatian has definitely been the revelation of 2020 so far, scoring seven times in less than two months across both Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Rebic arrived in the summer from Eintracht Frankfurt on a two-year loan, so his contract with Milan will expire in June 2021 too.

If the former Fiorentina winger continues his good form then Milan will start negotiations to sign him outright, but it is worth nothing that Fiorentina have a 50% resale clause. For now though, the 26-year-old is perfectly focused on the field, postponing any possible developments until the summer.

CALHANOGLU: The Turkey international has had plenty of ups and downs in his time as a Milan player, but has found himself in the starting XI under most coaches due to his attachment to the shirt and his commitment.

In the past there have been reports of interest from Germany and Calhanoglu has never hidden his appreciation for the Bundesliga, but Milan should also look to extend his contract to avoid losing him for a ridiculously low fee.

The former Leverkusen midfielder is happy at Milan and with Pioli he is finally playing in his favourite position. Versatile and technically strong, he could still be useful even if Pioli leaves.

MUSACCHIO: Like Hakan, Mateo Musacchio is also one of those players who has always given everything for the Rossoneri shirt.

He has never a said word out of place and has always accepted the manager’s decisions, even when he has been on the bench for periods. Recently he has had several muscle ailments from which he has not recovered 100%, and in the mean time the Argentine has been bypassed in the hierarchies by Kjarr and Gabbia.

In the summer it will be necessary to take stock of his future, and the club will have to take into account that losing the former Villareal defender would mean returning to the market to look for a replacement.
