MN: Milan ready to satisfy Pioli’s request as two midfielders will arrive – the names and budget

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ready to listen to the request made by Stefano Pioli by adding midfield depth to the current squad, according to a report.

As MilanNews notes, after Milan-Cagliari on Saturday night Pioli – speaking in the press conference – admitted the need to sign midfielders in particular.

“The midfield department cannot be made up of only two starters, but four starters. 22 starters will be needed, it will be necessary to raise the level of the whole team,” he said.

The report adds how for weeks there has been talk of a possible hijack of Inter’s move for Sandro Tonali, however it is now clear that he will in fact join the Nerazzurri.

The name of Florentino Luis is still lingering around and appears to be a player that Milan are considering despite Benfica’s high requests, while Matteo Pessina could also become a concrete target and a player who could be deputy to Hakan Calhanoglu in the trequartista position.

Tommaso Pobega will also come back from a good season on loan at Pordenone and must be assessed to see if he could become the ‘fourth choice’ midfielder or if he needs another experience on loan.

The feeling is that the the Rossoneri will not spend €30-40million for a single midfielder, a reason that perhaps prevented the Rossoneri from actually competing in the race for Tonali. It is simpler that this figure can be divided and spent on two players, maybe at €20m each.

Florentino Luis, Rodrigo De Paul and Matias Zaracho please!

Have they learned nothing from spending €20M on players and what it nets them. Hernadez is an anomaly that has panned out immensely for them and while you can argue against the €40M spend (Piatek, Bonucci, Paqueta, etc.) there are better quality players that you need to start building around rather than trying to hit diamonds in the rough!

Better to spend the money on 2 good players than 4 mediocre players! You need quality to continue to push Kessie/Bennacer in the middle and if you can improve then improve!

Bennacer was also bought for less than 20. You don’t have to spend 40 – 50 mil to get good players – but do need a scouting network to buy well. Look at some purchases Atalanta have made – Gosens was less than a million, Freuler was a few million – bought malyinovski this year for 15
