MN: Probable Milan XI to face Barcelona – one change from Juve draw

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan will take on Barcelona on Wednesday morning CEST and it will be their final game of the pre-season tour in the United States. After a loss and a draw, the Rossoneri will be looking for a win.

Milan lost their game against Real Madrid and drew against Juventus last time out, meaning they are on the hunt for the first win. On Wednesday morning, they will take on Barcelona and Stefani Pioli will field a strong starting XI.

According to MilanNews, the manager will make just one change compared to the lineup we saw against Juventus. Davide Calabria sustained a minor injury then and will thus miss out now, with Alessandro Florenzi or Alexis Saelemaekers set to replace him.

Probable Milan XI (4-3-3): Maignan; Florenzi/Saelemaekers, Thiaw, Tomori, Theo; Loftus-Cheek, Krunic, Reijnders; Pulisic, Giroud, Leao.

Most likely, there will be plenty of substitutions in this game as well with some of the youngsters getting an opportunity to shine. Not to mention the outcasts, such as Yacine Adli and Charles De Ketelaere.

  1. Calabria is already injured.
We know it’s only a question of WHEN, not IF, Florenzi gets some kind of surgery.
Neither one of them is good to be starting for Milan in UCL, they might get away in serie A,
And Neither one of them is reliable when it comes to availability.
And people say Milan doesn’t need to sign a right back.
Both, a back up LB and a RB should be signed by the end of the window.

    1. We have Saelemaekers as RB backup & Florenzi as LB backup. Not mention Simic can play RB & Kalulu can play anywhere at back.

I think we don’t need any new defenders.

    2. Maybe bring another foreign player for rb positions to be totally international club,
This time choose wisely rb from Indonesia
      What do you think
      Lmk

  2. Saelemaekers should become Abate 2.0. he has good defensive sense, good progression, and could do better when he was not in his regular position.

  3. Calm down management already know that, we have one month to sign a backup RB and LB, and of course for RB is not a “backup”, we need an RB who’s not injury prone and convincing in both attack and defence.

  4. Why always Krunic? he didn’t do well on the last two games and Pioli insists to field him.
Really don’t understand Pioli till now.
He spoke high about him on several occasions.
The friendly games should give Pioli chance to try another player for that position.
I am still thinking that Piolis judgment is not based on talent but rather based on like and dislike.. and it’s worrying

      1. That’s the reason you have pre-season where you can try all players for certain position or try new idea.
If Pioli only sees there is only Krunic dor that position without intensively try out other players during pre season, then there will be no improvement and no solutions.
I am convinced unfortunately that Pioli think like you do (only Krunic fit that position)

  5. we do desperately need an upgrade at right back. I love Davide — he’s a rossoneri through and through; BUT he’s just too slow. He was totally abused over and over and over again during that horrible 7-game winless streak in early 2023 and though he played well v Napoli in champions league (he got a lot of help from teammates v Kvara), he’s just too slow and can’t get crosses into the box and accurately as Kalulu. I’d strongly prefer Kalulu out there again because he takes too many chances going for steals/interceptions for a centerback; but taking more chances out wide won’t hurt us as much.

  6. We need a holding midfielder. We have quite a few forward looking midfielders but I‘m afraid we lack that strong midfielder and because of that we will be caught in break always especially against smaller teams. I like Krunic, but in this position he is too methodical and not aggressive enough. I have faith in Pioli & am sure that matter is being looked after.
