MN: Milan’s blueprint for the summer mercato clear – five or six new signings will arrive

By Oliver Fisher -

The start of preseason is not far away, and the Milan management are working to try and give Stefano Pioli a more complete squad to begin preparations with.

According to MilanNews, some negotiations are concluded such as Fikayo Tomori’s permanent signing and the arrival of Mike Maignan, while there are ongoing talks with Real Madrid and Manchester United to get Brahim Diaz and Diogo Dalot back for another season.

Maldini and Massara is working hard to give Pioli a competitive squad, hopeful of competing in Serie A and in the Champions League, but there is work to be done in each department before the squad can be considered ready.

Milan will have to take a third goalkeeper, or officially promote Alessandro Plizzari to the first team. A left-back and right-back to deputise Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria respectively will be needed, while Kjaer, Romagnoli, Tomori and Gabbia will be the centre-backs, with the returning Caldara ready to fight for a place in the team.

The Rossoneri are looking for a physical midfielder to join Kessie, Bennacer and Tonali, with Bakayoko the hot name at the moment, while Rade Krunic will remain to play as a wild card just as he did in the 2020-21 campaign.

A replacement for Calhanoglu will arrive, and a right winger will be needed as an upgrade for the now unwanted Samu Castillejo. Rafael Leao could be sold so a left winger may arrive, and in attack, everything revolves around Ibrahimovic’s condition. If the Swede does not give the right guarantees, two strikers would be needed. Milan should make 5 or 6 purchases, excluding he renewals of the loans.
