MN: Milan’s stance on making more big sales amid Kalulu, Theo and Maignan links

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will soon officially complete the sale of Sandro Tonali to Newcastle United for a club-record free, but he should be the only big exit.

According to MilanNews, fans should not be worried about the news that arrived from France yesterday suggesting that several Premier League clubs are interested in signing Pierre Kalulu and that an offer of €30m or more could tempt Milan.

The report claims that Milan do not intend to make any other big sales this summer after that of Tonali, and this of course extends to Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and other ‘core’ players who have been linked with a move away.

There has been a mixed reaction to Tonali’s exit to say the very least with Milan currently treading a PR tightrope, so the departure of another big-name player would be very tough for the leadership to defend heading into such a crucial campaign.

  1. Sell everyone and struggle to buy players of quality

…every one blamed Maldini for not able to sell…now we got management that can’t even buy player…funny.

    1. Nah its not they cant, they dont want to.. the team already strong.. top 4 league /CL semifinalist.. krunic-pobega strong enough pairing until benacer heal.. they only need to buy a backup or two who could improve until next season.. kamada already being signed as backup for krunic/benacer in CAM.. signing RLC should be enough backup for CM.. after getting Adama Traore as starting RW.. milan just need a backup ST.. and the team is complete.. milan even have extra GK after Sportiello.. if good offer for maginan arrive they will consider.. milan also have excess player who can play multiple position like Saelemaekers who can cover leao.. he main point is milan is already strong team on a good hand of pioli.. its only that the fans panic whitout reason..

      1. Last year we had big problems in our midfield and now the two best (Tonali & Bennacer) is gone and you think we are ok, you are delusional. Krunic is a backup midfielder for a limited time and Pobega ta say it kindly is no where near to get playing time in a team competing for the league.

RLC will be a good signing but it might take time before he fits in in calcio play. We really need to go for SMS, Musah and Reijnders since Tonali, Vranx is gone and Bennacer out.

      2. Yes, krunic is a great guy in the midfield. Pobega also good. We just need to strengthen the defence as Tamori makes a lot mistakes when confronting great scorers. Malick not very experienced yet, Kalulu still coming up, kjiar gasing out.

        We need world class players.
        This is Acm

    2. Yeah struggle in June, have you lost your sense of time and thought its already end of August?

      Whats wrong with you?

    3. No one blamed Maldini coz look at cdk he was better in Belgium and everyone thought he would be a legend in milan but he became a flop look at origi a super sub in Liverpool but flopped seriously in milan. But the one who caused all this non other but Pioli who should have been sacked by now and Milan ought have gotten GASPERINI

  2. They’ll keep the other assets and sell one next year to line Cardinales pockets, then the same again the year after until there’s nobody left to sell because it’s a team of crap like loftus cheek.

  3. Ah yeah right these guys are “protected” the same way Sandro was one of the four unsellable key players. EPL clubs please address your offers to Furlani’s bank guichet before they got sold for an offer he can’t refuse.

  4. It is just a matter of $$$$.
FFS, Jerry is a investment banker, he is willing to sell his mother for money.

    #cardinaleout

  5. This ain’t just about the sacking of Maldini and selling of Tonali which is bad regardless, it’s about the clear non sporting vision of this management. You can argue economics, but what about team spirit and cohesion, existing partnerships in the team being broken up and disbanded.

Had we got Tielemans on a free and were about to land SMS there may be mixed reactions, but right now we have sold a player who was A. good, B. Young and C. Italian and D. A fan of the club.

They aren’t waking a PR tightrope at all, they fell off that last week. They sold the heart and soul of this club in a month! Don’t be naive and be fooled into believing they won’t sell another big star this summer. The sharks of the prem smell blood and know Gerry will sell. One of Mike or Theo will go in think, we will get the ‘offer was too high to refuse’ line….

All we had to add was a No10, RW and a CF…not dismantle a great young squad with great team spirit. That could have been achieved on the existing budget plus sales. They couldn’t wait to shove Tonali out the door, because it wasn’t about rebuilding, it was about pocketing the cash. We could get 30m for Kalulu, added to the alleged 50m, plus sales from players. With that we could have added SMS, Retegui who I believe is in fiorentina’s radar for 15m, and a good RW.

    1. Agreed mate. The keyword here is no sporting vision in this management. What they do is disintegrating the team that has been built for 3+ years and won scudetto in between. I just can not find any logical excuse on selling Tonali under no financial urgency. You can argue about wether Tonali price is very generous or his talent might not fulfill some of the fans expectation but whatever it is, he is still crucial and played every single game if he’s fit to play. Sheva, kaka, and ibra sales are different because Milan was in financial difficulties.

When Milan managed to renew Leao before the season ended and they will sign Kamada for free, I look forward next season with very good excitement. But now everything start falling apart

  6. Yep, when people were blaming Maldini for not selling, they meant the deadwood like Origi, Ballo Toure etc.

Anyone could have sold Tonali, that doesn’t take an expert sporting director! The skill was balancing the squad while keeping the core players.

Cardinale & co have taken the easy way out, by gutting the squad he will still be able to show a positive balance sheet. Milan as a project are not an attractive proposition, I’m not sure the management are aware of how bad this looks

    1. Free agents aren’t enough for Milan now. Thuram couldn’t be persuaded. WE need players with nowhere else to go like Morata, big gambles like CDK or Reijnders. There’s a big void in the middle of players that we don’t seem to be able to attract.

People may celebrate the signings on Loftus Cheek and Pulisic like they are some sort of coup, but neither of these players have anywhere else to go.

As usual nobody sees past the big picture into the long term repercussions bounding over the hill towards us.

If moneyball is really about low value talent then why aren’t we looking at Viti, Retegui, Baldazini, Parisi Orsolini or Wahi. Recruit from within Serie A with young talent with a couple from other leagues.

I think they are trying to make Milan as un-Italian as possible, why? because why sign Italian players for an Italian team, the team catches the Italian market, signing players from all over the world will attract a new audience for shirt sales and merchandise.

      1. @Drew

You might well be right. Cardinale thinks he’s reinventing the wheel but all he’s doing is implementing one version of a data model, there are probably hundreds of ways of utilising the same data to give a variety of conclusions.

Redbird may well see a way to maximise exposure or shirt sales across continents eg Kamada from Japan, RLC from UK, Musah from USA etc which could well yield positive cash flow from sponsorship etc while keeping us in 4th place. And for Gerry that’s a massive win, while the fans get no trophies he has a profitable asset he can sell a few years later.

        1. Football recruitment has always been done on data analytics, just not the way Redbird do. The difference is that alongside the stats (goals, assists, ground coverage, MOMs, clean sheets etc) people like Maldini use their instinct too, a hunch. Look how Leonardo plucked Kaka, Pato and Thiago Silva from relative unknown status.

Redbird are doing nothing new here. The only new thing they are doing is selling players for profit under the pretence of something else.

If they used data analytics, the same ‘across the aggregate’ philosophy they claim to use on signing players, they would use on gaining income from transfers.

Take Tonali, data analytics tell us he is one we need to keep, so rather than 80m from one important asset you set out to make that 80m from players you can afford to lose (CDK, Rebic, Origi, Kalulu, Adli) as well as the money saved from Vranckx, Brahim etc. ACROSS THE AGGREGATE!!

          Its all BS

          1. yeah clearly you could do it better seeing as you are an expert at typing crap from your keyboard all day everyday

Cant wait for you to shamelessly celebrate when Milan keeps on winning.

          2. @Boulden….what does that even mean…? I mean is that an attempt at humour? Or wit? The last I heard, this was a forum, you know, a place for discussion.

          3. @Boulden…what does your post even mean? Is it an attempt at wit? Sarcasm? Humour? Or do you just propagate insults as is evident from what I see of your posts?

Perhaps I do post sh!t, or perhaps not, perhaps their opinions, afterall this is a forum. However quite a few seem to agree with them…

  7. in the past we had Kaka, Sheva, Madini, etc. Ac Milan is like a real family. They may not be the best team in the world, but their family is the best.

  8. “offer of €30m or more could tempt Milan.” For Kalulu…is this real??? This can’t be real right?
Why so low?.didn’t Paris wanted to pay like 50m last year smh. Sure he didn’t have as good a season but he’s still one of the best top 20 players in his age bracket. Top 10 for young defenders easily

    1. Because its just a rumor, are you dumb????? Do you think every rumor is true now?

Its because of dumb people like you newspapers make up these articles everyday
