MN: Pioli inclined to drop Kessie in favour of Bennacer against Sampdoria

By Isak Möller -

Ismael Bennacer has regained some form in the last few weeks and AC Milan are hoping that he can continue on this path. In fact, it looks like he will get an opportunity to show his qualities tomorrow.

The Algerian was benched in the game against Lazio as Stefano Pioli opted to start Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali instead. The former midfielder has been a bit criticised lately and especially today, with today’s papers suggesting that he has decided to leave Milan.

According to MilanNews, it looks like Bennacer could play from the first minute tomorrow, replacing Kessie in the midfield tandem. It wasn’t mentioned if this was due to the recent rumours, but most likely not.

Pioli somewhat defended the Ivorian during his press conference earlier today (read here), stating that he has sacrificed himself a lot in the past two games (mainly against Inter). It’s possible, therefore, that the manager just wants to give him some rest ahead of what’s to come.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Romagnoli, Florenzi; Tonali, Bennacer; Messias, Brahim Diaz, Leao; Giroud.

  1. Kessie is so overrated

He’s had only one decent season last year when everyone in the team was underperforming. Just a slow and lazy version of Gattuso.

  2. I hope they don’t start Kessis at all
He was so disappointed with Liverpool. He left Milan with 10 player with Atletico
    What else he can do
We treat that guy as king
    Leave that fuck on bench

  3. there is no reason to bench your player and put player from other club to boost his form , so nice ,good decision ,i hope we play like this until the end of the ssn

  4. very kind and generous of Stefano to allow Kessie to be with the reserves/bench, heaven knows he does not want him injured or to have a bad performance which would lower his value and interest from other teams…….. Sorry, give me men who are all in for the Rossoneri win lose or draw.

  5. Here’s the thing for anyone who called out Pioli dumb because he keeps playing Kessie.

    1) As the coach, Pioli’s job is to use every players available to make Milan win. So he didn’t have anything to do with Kessie contracts. As long as Kessie available in the bench, Pioli will used him either some of you like it or not.

Beside, right now we only have three good DM; Tonali, Kessie, and Benacer. We can’t rely on Bakayako because the guy keeps making blunder. And Krunic while playing pretty good as DM but we need him to backup Diaz. But next season we will have Pobega, Adli, and possibly Renato.

    2) Milan works different than other clubs.

At Milan, every players not just treated professionally but they also like a family, no matter what their contracts situation is. Watch Theo interview about how he feels very happy at Milan like he’s in a big family. Even Donnaruma and Hakan never talks bad about Pioli or Milan management and that’s because they always treated really well.

So for Milan there’s no such a thing as bench the players just because they decided not to renew their contracts with Milan.

    3) Milan already paid Kessie salary and it will be a waste of money if Pioli didn’t used him to help Milan win scudetto / copa italia.

  6. I fear for kessi future, I see him ending up like bakayoko..and as for Milan i like their decision on him bcs pobega can do better than him and if he can see treatment like tonali he will be like yaya Toure. So Milan has a future and I see the old days coming forza Milano!!
