MN: The strange case of Chelsea striker as Milan withdraw interest under new terms

By Isak Möller -

Olivier Giroud’s future is uncertain as he seemed destined to leave for free up until yesterday, when Chelsea announced the contract renewal. And for Milan, it has changed the situation and their intentions completely.

As reported by Anto Vitiello of MilanNews, Milan were interested in the striker mainly because he was available on a free transfer. Although the renewal seemingly hasn’t shut the door for a departure, Giroud’s situation has still changed.

The Rossoneri have no intention of paying anything to Chelsea for the 34-year-old, so the only way for him to still join the club is to terminate the contract. The Stamford Bridge’s stance on this is a bit unclear, as the renewal was mainly to prevent rivals from signing him.

Giroud will be allowed to leave if an offer from abroad comes but then again, Milan don’t want to pay anything for the signing. Not even a small compensation fee, which is why a contract termination is the only solution.
