MN: Three hypotheses on the table amid ‘very delicate’ Cardinale-Maldini tensions

By Oliver Fisher -

More information continues to filter regarding the meeting that took place today between AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and technical director Paolo Maldini.

MilanNews confirms that the meeting took place but was not held at Casa Milan, and at the moment there is an interlocutory phase where all the hypotheses are on the table, which are essentially three.

The first is a step forward from the ownership towards Maldini’s requests, the second is a step back by Maldini with respect to his demands for greater investment, and the third is that he leaves the club.

It is a ‘very delicate’ situation where all the parties involved are reflecting on what emerged from today’s meeting. However, the report does state that Cardinale’s esteem for Maldini and his working group was reaffirmed.

There will be no official communications from the club or comments from the owners today, but a decision will have to be made soon because Milan cannot experience another month of deadlock like the one which disrupted the start of last summer.

If you follow our Substack none of this would come as a surprise, given we reported last week that there are some differences that have arisen between the pair.

    1. I am starting to feel like Cardinale and Maldini are not seeing eye to eye and that I hope not but Maldini maybe forced out. That would be the most apprehensible thing that could happen with the upper management at Milan. Maldini is Milan and Milan is Maldini! In Maldini we trust!

      1. Did you trust Maldini’s mercato last summer? Wasn’t exactly a productive 50mil, the only bright spot being Thiaw. You can understand why Cardinale is hesitant.

        1. Maldini was dealt with limited time last year. First the take over took time into the teansfer window. Second, he didn’t get his contract renewal until literally the last second. By that time Milan’s target players were picked off because they started the mercato late over that bs.

        2. I trusted the players Maldini wanted not necessarily the ones he ended up with. He wanted Botman, but then settled eventually for CDK

        3. Maldini asked for Botman and was denied.
Guess who’s the best CB in the whole Premier League this year…

        4. But prior to that, his signings have been very good. One transfer window cannot define whether he is good or bad. But I actually hope they do not fire him, as it will cause great backlash from the ultras.

  1. There are plenty of anti-Paolo posters who will probably be happy but…

This isn’t good for Milan. Uncertainty will affect future signings, and even some star players may consider their future (Theo literally joined because Maldini convinced him)

Especially bad timing now, we could see another wasted transfer window.

    1. Maldini will stay cardinale I don’t think is that dumb but I think Maldini wanted to raise the budget and he was rejected

      1. Well remember last year when it took literally until the last minute before Maldini and Massara signed that extension? From there I knew it wouldn’t be all sweet and candy going forward.

  2. I never liked cardinale when he first bought the team, didn’t like him in January and it would be the final straw for many milan fans if he parts ways with Maldini. If true, he’s basically telling us he won’t invest In this team to bring it to the next step. So we could be assured players like theo and leao will be sold. He makes it seem like oh we gave you 35m for cdk and look how that turned out, meanwhile Maldini wanted money spent towards botman and different players but because of this ridiculous rule that we need to invest in young players that can develop that will ruin us.

Better wise up and bring this team to the next level or you will lose all the fans

  3. Last summer was singularly depressing. A target identified, then endless penny-pinching negotiations before (in most cases) some other club came in with a better offer. Redbird need to authorise Maldini to pick who he wants, pay the correct money and close the deals QUICKLY. The main part of the mercato should be concluded by mid-July.

  4. As fiorentina president mentioned before Cardinale took over milan , He said that Cardinale had no money …..

  5. Comon ACM 1899 are you complaining for €32 , what if you was a Chelsea fan.
Go check how much money they lost this season.

  6. Yeah this cardinale character is not making himself very likeable amongst milan fans. The latest is that both maldini and massara got sacked today. So no spending, treat our legends like trash, still nothing on the stadium ( which depends on other parties) = WTF.

  7. I never like it when I heard it was an American gonna take over Acmilan.
Because those guys only care about stock market, money for them self, they’re not soccer fans either.
    Screw him, forza Maldini

  8. If maldini leaves, i think Theo will consider to Bayern and Leao 2025 will go the EPL clubs. You wants good player with the free agent style ?? Haha.. Cardinale dont know the good relation with the director. You should be grateful.

  9. With his limited money and free agent style, cardinale should stay with his current structure. Whos gonna be his direttore football with limited money now ? Haha.. thats american owner bro. Spent little wants much more success. Football these day you cant do that. Hahaha…

  10. Cardinale mau free agent dan sukses dalam UCL. Jadi bisa ambil benefit yang banyak. Sepakbola zaman skrg mana ada yang bisa begitu? Coba hitung city & psg udah brp banyak keluarin duit ?
