MN: Updates arrive regarding Kjaer and Thiaw after Sassuolo injury scares

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s defensive department has been subject to repeated injury crises this season and after the 3-3 draw against Sassuolo there were fears that another had begun.

Simon Kjaer was brought off in the second half of the game yesterday headed to the dressing room without staying to watch the game on the bench, which certainly fuelled the idea that he suffered an injury, as did Stefano Pioli mentioning a ‘flexor problem’ after the game.

Meanwhile, Malick Thiaw was also seen hobbling around towards the end of the game clutching his hamstring. The German defender suffered muscle cramp which later passed, according to what filtered at the end of the game, and thus he was able to continue.

However, according to the latest from Antonio Vitiello of MilanNews, Kjaer underwent a scan this morning on his flexor which has ruled out a strain or tear of any kind. His condition will be evaluated in one week, following some treatment.

Meanwhile, any kind of injury was also ruled out for Thiaw which means that he did just suffer some cramp and should be able to train regularly with the rest of the squad in the build-up to the second leg against Roma.

    1. Or had a minor issue which affected his performance and then went from bad to worse and had to come off. He wasn’t himself at all. But that’s what playing next to Thiaw does even to the most experienced players.

      1. i want to see pioli giving more chances to Simic tho, the handfull amount of games he played he looked very solid and strong

        1. Agree 100%. Simic IS ready – unlike what Pioli thinks. We’ve seen what Thiaw & Kalulu do to our defense. Even with his limited minutes Simic has shown he can be relied on more than those two. It is insane Simic doesn’t get to play at all anymore.

  1. Ugh, if Thiaw is available for Roma we’re in trouble because Pioli is going to start him and Tomori, instead of Tomori-Gabbia. We need to take the choice out of Pioli’s hands.
