Moncada comments on ‘difficult’ Gimenez signing and chances of keeping Joao Felix

AC Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada lifted the lid on how the negotiations for Santiago Gimenez went, and again spoke of signing Joao Felix permanently.

Moncada was busy during the winter transfer window as Milan signed five players in total and allowed six senior squad members to leave, with the management hitting the mid-season reset button in many ways.

The aim was obviously to give Sergio Conceicao a more functional squad for his idea of playing football and now it will be up to the coach with the help of those players to continue improving results.

A good starting point would be getting through to the last 16 of the Champions League, but it will be a tough task after the 1-0 defeat against Feyenoord at De Kuip last Wednesday.

Moncada spoke to Sky moments before kick-off in the second leg at San Siro and he answered questions on a number of topics, with the interview transcribed by MilanNews.

Do you need a Milan-worthy night?

“We are happy, everyone is here today. We made a mistake in the first match, today we are in Milan and we have to do something important: we have gone attacking and it is right because we have to score two goals. I am confident for the match.”

How difficult was it to bring Gimenez to Milan?

“We have known him for many years, we worked with him and his agent before. It was difficult, we always have to argue a bit with the Dutch clubs. Now he has to do the job, he knows the team and the opposing defenders well.”

Can Joao Felix stay beyond the summer too?

“The team was missing a creative player and the coach knows him very well. His permanence also depends on him, we will see how the future will be. An important player for us who has brought something different to the team.”

  1. Another nonsense from media or our management (I can’t decide who is behind this constant rumor we will already try to sign Joao Felix permanently)

He’s barely good enough on a free. Definitely not 40mn and high wages. He’s a luxury player that doesn’t deliver when it counts. Just YouTube highlights in meaningless games.

There are better options to use our limited funds.

  2. Keeping Joao Felix ? What are you smoking ? This anorexic , zero physical force , no brain , joke of a player must be send off back to Chelsea asap

    1. It should be all about football skills and pitch intelligence, because we have too much physicality and this approach has hurt us many times in current and previous season.

  3. What’s the Italian presses fascination with Felix? They talk about him like he’s Baggio. There’s little chance he’s going to be signed. He’d have to play amazingly well to extend the loan, and that’s only if the coach, whoever that is, wants to keep him.

  4. Felix should be benched! But his Daddy loves him. Felix has hurt the balance of the team and the play of both Reijnders and Pulisic. Is everyone understanding why he has failed everywhere he’s gone? He’s creative with no end product. Flash with no substance.

  5. Nonsense
Go away and take Joao Felix with you.
You brought in Gimenez and this Milan will destroy his carrier.
    Sorry for the boy 😔
