It is probably something that goes without saying, but if AC Milan were to have a negative season then several key figures would find themselves in the docks.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) reports this morning, Milan have found themselves in seventh place in the Serie A table and even if they won their game in hand against Bologna they would not jump up any higher.
We don’t know how many places will make the 2025-26 Champions League, whether four as usual or five, but the Rossoneri are far from both the fourth and fifth spot anyway. Saturday’s match must provide a message that the minimum objective is not already in grave danger.
Neither Milan nor Juventus can really do without the UCL, because the sustainability of their respective projects would be at stake without the millions in revenues that the competition brings. Indeed, finishing outside the qualifying spots would force big reflections from the owners.
Paulo Fonseca will not be the only one to answer for a potential failure. Every coach is liable to be sacked in the event of repeated negative results and he will be no exception, but if the season ended badly, everyone would be in question.
Inside an American-owned club, with economics and data as its lodestar, the chain of command is primarily responsible. That means the CEO Giorgio Furlani and the special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic would come under scrutiny.
They endorsed the choices and submitted them to the majority shareholder, Gerry Cardinale, for approval. Then there is Geoffrey Moncada who is the technical director and has a major influence on the signings and squad construction, so his work will also be judged come June.
A victory over Juve, after defeating Inter and Real Madrid, would certify the spirit of the group and reduce the gap in the standings to a mere question of adaptation to the new era. A defeat would see a new crisis open up, and probably end any title hopes before December.
Finally we keep talking about coach/players but how about these bozos who never deserved the spots up there to begin with
We’ll beat Juve because these players seem to wake up against the “big” teams. Then it’ll be another crisis averted until we lose against Empoli.
I think the common denominator is Moncada. He would need to go. I’m not even sure was Furlani does, but if he is involved in choosing players to bring in, he would have to go as well. Fonseca would also go. Ibra would probably survive, given that it’s his first season and that he’s only a “special advisor”, but if so I’d change his title to the classic “team manager”. That’s where he belongs. Close to the squad and being the bridge between the players and the owner. Not a decision maker with regards to coaches and players to bring in.
All of these bozos should be replaced. ALL OF THEM. Get an EXPERIENCE CEO AND SPORTING DIRECTOR.
Furlani can easily move around within Elliot or even Redbird’s umbrella of companies if they want to shift him. He’s pretty safe. Its Moncada that’s likely the scapegoat along with Fonsy. I doubt they’ll fire Ibra as he’s only a special advisor and technically outside of Milan’s org structure. And he’s been there only 1 year in, it wouldn’t make for good decision making on Gerry’s part so I doubt he’d go.
Sorry, not meant as a reply to you.
But I also agree lol
If we fail to qualify for CL then certainly heads will role.
Fonseca for not achieving results when the squad is healthy and unable to beat Cagliari
Moncada for so so many bizarre signings that contribute ZERO
Zlatan for being a yes man who should know better.
Furlani is the CEO so he is running the business, it’s unlikely he will be blamed.
Most importantly, I hope Gerry sits the team down and asks “who decided to push Kalulu out to a direct rival and sign Emerson for 15m?”
Whoever that is has to be fired 1st
That’s the only thing keeping me excited this season. Chopping and sacking.
LOL. It will be a red wedding
we will win against juve somehow and then lose to slovan bratislava and empoli
If Milan does not qualify for the 2025 Champions League, Pulisic will leave. Guaranteed
The quartet should be sacked even if we did somehow manage to reach the top4 this season.
