Moncada insists Milan have ‘clear ideas’ and speaks on Conceicao’s future: “It’s not like that”

AC Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada has insisted that the club have ‘clear ideas’ about how to be ‘better for the future’.

Tonight’s game is one that doesn’t necessarily stand out as being a thriller when looking at the league positions. In fact, it is more of a mid-table battle between Genoa in 13th and Milan in ninth, but both sides still have plenty to play for.

The Rossoblu want to finish the season with some momentum ahead of a big summer for Patrick Vieira’s side, while the Rossoneri are looking to build form and confidence in view of the Coppa Italia final in nine days.

Sergio Conceicao made two changes to the team that beat Venezia last Sunday, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek replacing Rafael Leao and Luka Jovic – who recovered from back pain – taking the spot of Tammy Abraham.

Moncada spoke to DAZN moments before kick-off at the Marassi and answered questions mostly about the planning for the future, which we have translated via MilanNews.

What kind of a test is it tonight?

“It’s important, Genoa is a difficult place. It’s a good match to prepare for the final, it’s important to win because it always gives confidence.”

What work is needed to restore calm among the fans?

“Last year it was an incredible game with Olivier in goal, it was a satisfaction for everyone to win. To get back to that level we have to work, we know our needs. We have clear ideas, we know what we have to change and do better for the future.”

Will Conceiçao have a chance of staying by winning the Coppa Italia?

“It’s not like that. We have faith in him. He brought the right mentality. He’s a worker, he works hard every day at Milanello with his staff. It has nothing to do with the Coppa Italia, it’s something else. We’re happy with him.”

How is Leao? Is the bench just a technical choice?

“Yes. We play a difficult match on Friday at San Siro against Bologna. But also today, and Ruben is playing. He is doing well, he is back in good shape physically and it is important to see him play a match.”

  1. With all due respect, RLC doesn’t have what milan needs from a CM (playing beside reijnders) a 343 system. can’t pass (triangles), can’t dribble can’t break opposition’s play against Genoa; just unintelligent runs, back passes and leaving a big gap in the middle.

Honestly, milan needs a vidal/niangollan type of ‘destroyer-baller’ in midfield and a complete CM who is a brilliant passer like ‘Jorginho in the Sarri ball Napoli’.
Imagine hoping to win Europa next season and failing to control the game and get outplayed by Genoa.

  2. “We have clear ideas, we know what we have to change and do better for the future.” cant get any worse than being french and a liar
