There is a worrying statistic regarding Mike Maignan, and it regards his reliability for AC Milan. Put simply, he is not.
Milan are in a difficult position with Maignan. He is one of the key players, more importantly he dons the armband. However, there is a rather large caveat to it all, or two. He has a deal expiring in 12 months, if that, and his injury record.

The former does not seem to be getting better at this point. Talks have seemingly broken down, and it seems the Rossoneri are ‘at peace’ with the idea of losing him. However, games like this weekend could be another reason why.
Reliable or not?
Maignan, put simply, went off the field with another injury at the weekend. It was not really an issue last season, more so in the one before that. Nevertheless, there is an inavoidable fact, as Gazzetta dello Sport write.
In the past four years, just for the Rossoneri alone, he has missed 40 games, which is quite a lot for a goalkeeper in such a period. Of course, we also need to consider the new injury could add to that tally.
The injury issues slowed last season, but they may still be very present. Something which could only deter a renewal further.
Mike is a good GK, but he’s not irreplaceable, and is the most injured GK we’ve ever had that I can think of. I’m fine with him walking in 2026. There are GKs that can be as good for 20-25M (or we can just give Torriani a shot).

We cannot risk with Torriani. Honestly, I would have kept Sportiello and sell Maignan, get Terraciano and keep also Torriani. Torriani is good but it is very young and he is not Moneyrumma
If Atalanta finishes outside of top 6 and I think they will, Bellanova and Carnesecchi are a must…
I would even risk Lodi/Tomiyasu for the time being (until 2027, with ability to terminate in 2026)
It wasn’t a mistake to pull the renewal offer of 5 million plus bonuses of the table. The mistake was not selling him.
I’ve seen goalkeepers get injured because of a contact or bad fall, but i have never seen out of nowhere, the camera turns to a goalkeeper and he is sitting on the pitch asking for the medic. That happens with Maignan about once a month.
Oh, he also gave up another near post goal, but luckily, it was offside.
Plethora of good goalkeepers to choose from in serie A. Caprile from Cagliari looked awesome vs Parma. Torriani is there. Maignan is easy to replace.
Do not be too harsh on him. Lets hope he is back to his best ASAP. But…, his near post … common Mike you must do better!
I agree, the mistake was not to sell him. We could have keep Sportiello or get a decent italian GK

The crazy thing is that most of these are muscular injuries. That’s insane for a goalkeeper. Over a season with off missed games…
The real crime is that we didn’t buy VMS this summer.
Too bad Allegri won’t play Torriani.
And last year we had a really good backup in Sportiello. This year I’m less confident.
Play Torriani, at this point I can’t really care because this is season in, season out, I just don’t trust Terracciano between the sticks.
Its time to play in Torriani. Hes a new Dollarumma (and hopefully more loyal).
Still, Maignan was 3rd in most minutes played last season among European clubs. Valverde from Real and Fernandes of United came 1st and 2nd.
Pretty good for someone everyone wants to sell due to his unavailability and constant injuries.
Good luck to Maignan. It seems his time here is winding down. I prefer the captain be a field player.
I’ve said it a 100 times already. Milan should have renewed Theo and sold Maignan. It was a stupid move to try to keep an injury prone goalkeeper and left Theo leave for peanuts.
It still shows how incompetent Milan management are because they chose the wrong player to keep and now Maignan will most likely leave for free.
