Official: AC Milan Women confirm signing of Julia Šimić – a profile on the midfielder

By Steph Insixiengmay -

After what has seemed like a long wait, Julia Šimić has officially been unveiled as an AC Milan player.

Šimić is a former German international of Croatian descent, and she comes to the team after two seasons with West Ham.

The midfielder had previously played for Germany at the youth level, where she won the UEFA U19 Championship in 2007.

She also has experience in the Frauen-Bundesliga, where she played for Bayern Munich, FFC Turbine Potsdam and VFL Wolfsburg. She has won trophies with all three of those teams, including winning the Bundesliga in 2017.

After playing for Freiburg for a year, she moved to West Ham in 2018. During her spell with the Irons, she played a total of 22 games and managed to score a total of three goals.

Šimić also spent a year on the sidelines during her time in London, as she was plagued by a persistent knee injury. She seems to have recovered from the injury, and will be a welcome addition to Milan’s midfield.

The midfielder can play in space to allow her teammates to receive the ball, or create space where she sends passes through to teammates to allow them to attack an opponent’s goal.

Šimić plays in the pivot and is a player who splits open the opposition with her passes. She is a regista whose vision and passing will allow her teammates to move into the key areas behind the defense, waiting for the ball as they launch into attack.

This is the type of creativity that Milan will need in their midfield, and Julia is just the player who will provide it.

The Rossonere have been improving their squad in a big way this summer, and Šimić is the latest addition to it. Their main objective is to qualify for Europe, and Julia is the type of player who will help them do so.

Welcome Julia, and may your tenure here be a fruitful one.
