Daniele Chiffi will officiate the Milan-Napoli clash this Sunday, and based on his record with both teams, you can understand the decision.

Milan will be looking to build on their four-game winning streak (three if you only count the league) against Napoli on Sunday. As the Rossoneri are just three points behind the Partenopei currently, it’s a game that will mean a lot for both sides.

This is something that AIA, the Italian Referees Association, take into consideration when deciding the referee for the game. Yesterday, they announced that the 40-year-old Daniele Chiffi is the chosen one.

Milan’s record with Chiffi

Taking a look at the numbers, Chiffi has officiated 13 games involving Milan since the 2019-20 season, when he made his ‘Rossoneri debut’. Milan won 9 of these games, while three ended in draws and one in defeat (Spezia away from home).

In terms of controversial decisions, the most recent call dates back to the Milan-Udinese clash in the fall of last season. Tijjani Reijnders was handed a straight red card for a supposed challenge on Sandi Lovric, deemed as a denial of a clear goalscoring opportunity.

However, the replays showed that there was barely any contact involved, while a nasty stamp on Samuel Chukwueze was left unpunished. Chiffi did officiate two Milan games after that, though, more specifically the draws against Juventus and Inter (0-0 and 1-1).

Napoli have a more positive record with the referee, having never lost with him in charge (also 13 games, but 11 wins and 2 draws).

    1. He should not be our fan by definition, that’s ok. As long as he is not the main topic of the evening I don’t care if he is strict or lets the game a bit more loose.

Overall one of the higher rated refs, which is expected for the biggest match this weekend.
