Official: Two Milan stars make France World Cup squad whilst two more miss out

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan duo Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez have both been named in the France World Cup squad but Mike Maignan and Pierre Kalulu have not been selected.

The France squad was announced by Didier Deschamps on Wednesday evening and it was good news for two Milan stars. As expected, both Hernandez and Giroud will be given the chance to impress on the biggest stage.

It is also not a surprise to see that Kalulu has not been named given he has had limited involvement with the senior team and Manchester United’s Raphael Varane has recovered from injury in time to feature.

Maignan certainly would have been in the squad if he hadn’t suffered a second serious injury of the season recently. He would have been the second-choice goalkeeper behind Hugo Lloris but Alphonse Areola and Steve Mandanda are there instead.

The full France squad can be seen below:

Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola, Hugo Lloris, Steve Mandanda.

Defenders: Lucas Hernandez, Theo Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe, Ibrahima Konaté, Jules Koundé, Benjamin Pavard, William Saliba, Dayot Upamecano, Raphaël Varane.

Midfielders: Youssouf Fofana, Eduardo Camavinga, Mattéo Guendouzi, Adrien Rabiot, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Jordan Veretout.

Attackers: Karim Benzema, Olivier Giroud, Kingsley Coman, Ousmane Dembélé, Kylian Mbappe, Christopher Nkunku, Antoine Griezmann.

  1. Lol to those attackers. It’s a sick attacking squad. Not as impressed with the midfield. But there are of course quality players there also. But is the creativity big enough. Matbe it doesn’t matter if tou have those attackers. Van they get the team to perform as a team then they will be contending for the gold again.
