Official: Saint-Etienne announce transfer of Milan target to Leicester for record-breaking fee

It’s no secret that Milan are looking to reinforce the team with a centre-back before the transfer window closes. However, they have now missed out on one of their priorities for that role, as revealed by an official statement.

The Rossoneri have followed Wesley Fofana for a long time and just this morning, Corriere dello Sport (via MilanLive) reported that the Saint-Etienne star was the favourite. Leicester decided to swoop in, though, and secure the Frenchman’s services.

This was announced by Saint-Etienne just a few minutes ago in a statement, confirming that the deal is a record-breaking one for the club. The figures have not been revealed by the clubs yet but per Fabrizio Romano, it’s €40m including bonuses.

In other words, Milan will have look elsewhere for a new centre-back, which surely is something that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara were already prepared for. In the coming days, we should know more.
