‘It’s a mystery’ – Ordine questions why Bondo and Musah sit above Fofana

Youssouf Fofana was regarded as the best summer signing for AC Milan for much of the season, but in recent weeks, his importance has dwindled, leaving many confused.

The signing of Fofana in the summer mercato dominated the transfer talk for Milan, and when the club eventually got the deal over the line, it seemed quite monumental. Then, when Sergio Conceicao arrived, the Frenchman’s importance seemed to rise a little, with the Portuguese requesting a deputy.

However, it seems that the deputy has now overtaken the Monagasque midfielder in ranking, as Warren Bondo and Yunus Musah, who was already at the club, are seemingly preferred.

At present, there is no knowledge as to why that may be, but with the team seeming less compact and structured without Fofana’s presence, partnered with some poor games from Musah, the questions are arising about the Frenchman’s return.

Most notably today, from Franco Ordine, who wrote a piece for Corriere della Sera about the midfielder’s absence and Milan News have relayed his words.

“Another questionable move, that of promoting Musah as a starter: ready, go, he misses, with an empty goal, a goal that could have given the challenge a different destiny and then, drooling over an elementary pass, he forces Bondo to make up for it by spending a yellow that is then the reason for his substitution after the interval.

“It’s true: it takes courage to leave Theo Hernandez, in obvious pain against Strefezza, in the shower, while the Spaniard who came on in his place, Jimenez, must curb his quarrelsome nature if he is to deserve any confirmation. Then there is an unanswered question: why is Fofana no longer in the Portuguese’s plans? It is a mystery.

“The Frenchman, who entered in Musah’s place, is the balancer, in the defensive phase, he is the author of a series of useful interventions and allows, among other things, the displacement of Reijnders, the keystone of the challenge.

“The most alarming deficit of all, however, remains Sergio Conceiçao’s idea of football.”

  1. All interesting questions, but what does the statement “The most alarming deficit of all, however, remains Sergio Conceição’s idea of football” even mean?

  2. If Sergio Conceição’s wants to free Reijnders in my on opinion he should play fofana / Bondo and Ruben Loftus-Cheek / Musah while allowing to be in there front Reijnders … Pulisic / Jimenez, … Leao / Chukwueze … Gimenze / Tammy Abraham

  3. According to my own understanding, Conceicao likes fast progressing football. If we compare Musa and Fofana in that aspect, we all know that Musa moves faster than Fofana.

  4. I trust Bondo as a CDM alot more than I have ever trusted Fofana. Bondo’s reliability helps free Reijnders up. No idea why Musah is even on this team, however.

  5. Sergios idea of football is playing football, Fofana is a destroyer. His missing quality on the ball is slowing down Milan attacks. And then in defence recently he hasn’t been as sharp as before. In this System his part has to be coming from the bench to cover defensive ground when the game becomes more hectical at the end.

    1. Fofana is not a destroyer lmao… he can defend but he’s no CDM… hence, why Tiji-Fofana duo in front of Bondo makes so much sense…

  6. i dont know when this clown coach will realize that bondo, fofana and reindeer should be starting trio, he kept sticking with musah, not sure why, musah can’t score even with an empty goal, his passing is terrible, he needs more time to get better and we need results now so we should play the team that gives best chance to win

  7. We can’t keep it together with a two man pivot. Como had their way through our midfield the entire game.

    Should try 4-3-1-2:
    Theo/Thiaw/Tomori/Walker
    Bondo/RLC/Fofana
    Reijnders
    Puli/Gimenez

Then throw on whoever you want at the tired legs… Felix, Leao, for whoever is tired up front.

  8. Fofana passes are always intercepted. He can defend but gives the defended ball to opponent, hence they counter attack. I can equally bench him NOT only Conceiao can

  9. These comments have been echoed here, but I really wonder if Fofana is one of those four players they identified as being out of shape. He looked better last match against Como but he has looked sluggish the last couple months, he’s not moving around the pitch well anymore.

And yes Musah yet again made some comical decisions in front of goal, but if we’re being honest, would Fofana ever have ended up in that advanced position Musah was in? The reality is neither Musah nor Fofana are Milan calibre starters at the moment.

  10. It’s a what !!! A mystery lol fool, what sport are u watching ? Fofana is missing the ball every time he passes forward !!!! He loses the ball almost EVERY TIME he is in front of the defenders !!!!! Did you count how many points are lost and goals conceded because this dude just pass the ball to the opposition team !!!? A mystery is a bum like u talking about this sport
