Ordine explains the ‘three weaknesses’ at play amid potential stadium project U-turn

AC Milan and Inter are once again locked in discussions over a new stadium and the current situation suggests that they would like to stick together rather than go their separate ways.

Writing for Milan News, Franco Ordine explained the three weaknesses that are currently at play for all parties when it comes to the U-turn that could be on the way.

In the past, talks has been held over Milan and Inter both building a new stadium at San Siro together and sharing it. That was then shelved, and Milan charged off in their own direction and bought land in San Donato to build a stadium of their own.

The Rossoneri then realised they did not have the right partners to build this stadium by themselves, whilst Inter struggled to find anywhere suitable for a stadium of their own.

The weakness for Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is that he risks presiding over the split of two of Italy’s biggest clubs and they could feasibly end up far outside the centre of Milan, which is not good for the city.

For Milan, it is that they can’t stand on their own two feet in San Donato. The collective weakness for both clubs is that renovating the existing stadium would cost €700m, without factoring in land purchases.

What is certain is that time and money has been wasted on all sides and they are no closer to a solution, but the talks at Palazzo Marino tomorrow could help.

  1. Milan and serie a have no future. It is not a coincidence that the league and its clubs fell off a cliff sporting and financial wise in the last 20 years.

    1. Serie A is currently the second highest Uefa ranked league only eclipsed by EPL so even with an inferior economy in mind the clubs are actually still doing pretty fine.

  2. @Lexy6, read closely what Martin actually wrote.

@Euan, I don’t think the Club were ever under the illusion that they would self-finance the new stadio – no club can realistically afford that. 25yr loans and debentures, and sponsorship are the only for any club to build a new stadium.

In a perfect world, We BUY San Siro, renovate it, and tell int*r to FO 😄
