GdS: Origi finally back up to speed at a crucial time – Pioli needs him to contribute

Divock Origi has not had the smoothest of starts to his time at AC Milan given the injury problems he has been battling, but he feels ready to contribute.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) report that Origi was strongly wanted by the management who managed to sign him on a free transfer after his contract with Liverpool ran out, but he is yet to start a game and has seen his appearances limited by physical problems.

The Belgian striker has played just 114 minutes this season having arrived in Milan with a muscle problem that needed disposing of, meaning he did a different summer preparation in preseason and was only available off the bench for the first two league games against Udinese and Atalanta.

Then, a relapse of the muscular problem made everything difficult again and Origi went to the Belgian national team doctor to try and finally get back to top condition. The 27-year-old has appeared in the final segments of the last three games against Chelsea, Juventus and Chelsea again.

Pioli now needs him to become a proper solution in attack because Olivier Giroud has started 11 straight games for Milan and 13 if including the French national team. Origi is a striker who may not have scored much in his career – mainly because he has been behind others – but he hopes to change that with Milan, starting on Sunday.

  1. I think he’s already shown what he can do. Or actually can’t do. He’s not the goal scoring machine we need. Massively overpaid and overrated player who will struggle to get 5 goals per season in Milan.
