Paqueta looks back on tough period amid recent success: “This is me, this is Paqueta”

By Isak Möller -

After starting against SPAL, Lucas Paqueta started yesterday’s game against Lazio on the bench. However, as Hakan Calhanoglu suffered an injury, the Brazilian was brought on and did well once again.

In recent months, the midfielder has been heavily criticised after failing to replicate his first six months with the club. However, he has seemingly found new energy since the league was resumed, looking much better when given the chance.

His departure seemed certain just a few weeks ago but as a result of his latest performances, his future is now uncertain once again. In an interview with Sky Italia (via MilanNews.it), Paqueta was asked about the situation among other things.

On the success at the Olimpico: “A special victory, for many years Milan hadn’t won against Lazio 3-0. Now we must continue like this.”

On the personal moment: “This is me, this is Paquetà. Now there is more confidence, from the coach and the staff, I’m more relaxed to work well, I’m concentrated during the game, I think I will do my best.”

On what was missing before: “Trust is the most important thing for a footballer, in Brazil I had a lot of it, now I’m regaining it and this makes the difference.”

Against SPAL, Stefano Pioli deployed him as the trequartista behind Ante Rebic but last night, he had to replace Calhanoglu on the left flank and did surprisingly well there too. He was asked about which role he prefers.

On the role: “I feel good as a trequartista, it’s the position where I can do my best.”

On Ibrahimovic: “He is a great footballer, he has an incredible history, he gives great motivations on the pitch, we can be stronger with him.”

On Juventus: “We had a great match in the Coppa Italia, now Ibra is back who is very strong, we are confident, we think we can win,” he concluded.
