Carlo Pellegatti is refusing to get carried away with the rumours of Santiago Gimenez joining AC Milan, due to the timing of the deal it seems.
A signing like Gimenez in January is about as ambitious as they come. The Mexican striker is one of the most exciting prospects in Europe and with him scoring goals for fun in the Netherlands and Europe, it would be a fantastic signing if it happened.
Reports suggest that the striker has already agreed on a contract with Milan, and Feyenoord are currently preparing themselves for a bid from Italy for their star striker. It is expected that the offer will have to be in excess of €35 million.
For Pellegatti though, there is a lot to be done until he gets carried away in the excitement of it all, and on his YouTube channel earlier today, he discussed the situation as it stands, and his outlook has been relayed by Pianeta Milan.
“There’s always talk of Santiago Gimenez. I quote [Matteo] Moretto, today there could be an offer made to Feyenoord. It could warm the hearts of the Rossoneri fans, but the question is always the same.
“The Dutch don’t want to sell him. Yes, but what offer? If Milan were to offer €15m it would be an insult to Feyenoord. I believe that the bid must be appropriate and that it honours a player of a very high level. Every day that passes it becomes more and more difficult.
“I have to see with my own eyes that Milan will come up with €40-50m. Leave me with my doubts.”
Please don’t lowball. Hasn’t worked out that well in the past. 35-37mil plus bonuses. The Dutch DON’T have to sell.
Of course we will low ball because that is what we (Redbird) do. We have no intention of making this transfer or we would have put 40M in front of them right off the bat. Like you said they don’t have to sell now. A serious club in desperate need of a striker and who is at risk of missing out on UCL qualification doesn’t mess around with a week left in the window. But as I have said before, we are NOT a serious club.
Yes , true. We are extremely slow on market and if they really want to buy him, they just need to put the money on the table. Give them 30m€ + 5m€ in bonuses and 15% from next sell.. for example 😀 but definitely it must be a bigger offer , not shitty one around 10-20m€ ….
Their strategy seems to be wait til the end of the window and hope the other team breaks. But I’m not sure what forces Feyenoord to break, like it’s been mentioned many times , they don’t “need to sell” not like gimenez is on an expiring contract and they are still in UCL
A lot of folk here love to play fantasy Sporting Director, so here’s an alternative question…
If you’re Feyenoord’s management, why sell now?
You have a chance for automatic qualification in the UCL.
With Giminez your chances of reaching the final 8 is better
You’re having to fight for next year’s UCL place in the Eriedivisie (currently fourth).
You know in summer you’ll have time to recruit a replacement and bed them into the squad.
The chances of Giminez’s value falling are minimal, short of a dramatic long-term injury (not a 2-4 month one which would basically freeze his valuation).
I can’t think of one reason to sell other than ‘the player wants to move’, but in that case you agree with him a value in the summer and either give your word or let him sign a contract with a wage rise and a summer release clause.
So why on earth would Feyenoord sell now?
Agreed. And his value is comfortably more than 35 mln.
Take this money and buy a DM. Santi is not a huge upgrade to what we have.
Good, he really sucks.
I’m not much of a fan either. He seems above average but not elite in many aspects, which might be good enough for success in the Netherlands but may not translate to a better league. He looks worse than Morata from my eye test (obviously big difference in their ages and possibly trajectories). This is what I see:
Shot accuracy – good but not great
Shot power – good but not great
Dribbling – good for a striker
Speed – average/below average
Aerial ability – limited
Seems to link up fairly well with his teammates and has intelligent off-ball movements. But overall not sure he’s worth the money.
I dont know if this guy is the right choice. But we should definitely splash the money now and get a DM and a CF and go all in for a top 4 finish. Wating until summer to strengthen could be to late and its just meaningless to me. We could end up without CHL football next year.
Without UCL, Moncada would be sacked, the budget would be slashed and the coach would have to rely on primavera players.
Feyenoord can wait until the summer. I’m sure we could get Esposito from Empoli for under €20 million or Pinamonti, whose struggling at Genoa.
Then let them wait if that is the case
Milan fans and Every reason to complain🤝
I have a feeling this won’t happen in this window. We are better going for David from Lille. His contract is finishing this season. Offer 10 million to Lille or get an agreement for the summer. Then bang get both Gimenez and David in attack. Send Abraham and Morata away.
if the directors can splash 35 mio or something for chuku then it should be no problem to raise the bar a bit for gimenez.. that is with conditions the directors are not stingy and have creativity on the formula of the transfer.. tbh, our directors really need a crash course from people like galliani and marotta
Would you raise the nar if this is your money
yes.. and do you think any good/great strikers that has price of 35 mio or below now? I doubt that..
Guys, this is not monopoly money. He is not worth 40 million at the moment. 35 is quite adequate, anything more then that lets make it work with Morata, Abraham and Camarda and invest elsewhere.
You seem to forget that we ha e the most promissing one in the world with Camarda, who will have time to grow alongside Morata
Why is T. Abraham still doing in Milan? Camanda should replace him since and we get a new signing in addition.
All this could well be a gimmick by management to appear to be working knowing fully well the transfer will not happen. Offering a lower bid and stall with increments hoping to save funds when you know they DON’T have to sell is incredulous.
After scamacca got injured at Atalanta, they moved in under a week and got retegui, I didn’t read long Epistles online about Atalanta reaching agreements with the player and trying to coerce the club into releasing the player.
Milan are now hoping the “will” of the player will encourage his club to sell! Ingenious plan right for a player whose contract is not expiring and whose club ain’t broke!
