Pellegatti gives worrying Thiaw update: “A risk that the season will be compromised”

By Oliver Fisher -

The complex nature of Malick Thiaw’s injury continues to bring some rather alarming news, including the fact that he season might well be at risk if positive signs do not come from the next scans.

It was in the 51st minute of Tuesday night’s defeat against Dortmund that Thiaw pulled up near the byline after feeling a sharp pain in the back of his leg, and immediately a substitution was requested. The German defender was spotted exiting San Siro on crutches.

That made it quite apparaent that the problem he had sustained was not a minor one, and it was confirmed yesterday that he has sustained a severe lesion in his right thigh. Not only the muscle fibre was involved, but also the tendon.

Carlo Pellegatti spoke to Radio Rossonera about a number of topics and he began by discussing the injury that Thiaw has suffered, which is far from a simple muscle strain.

“Thiaw’s injury is very serious… the term ‘severe injury’ was used because as there is edema to be reabsorbed it cannot yet be assessed whether it is first, second or third degree,” he said.

“However, speaking of myo-tendon, it is no longer just a muscular thing but also concerns the tendon, so it could be something very similar to that of Kalulu.

“This being the case, it would be a matter of several months and there is a risk that the season will be compromised. This is a difficult situation, given that we have lost two out of four starters and this is a further blow to the team’s morale.”

    1. Check out Newcastle.
Their team has been decimated – their second string start at many positions, they’ve had to fill their bench with their academy players.
This is because of Eddie Howe’s high tempo, gegenpressing, rapid transition style of play, one that has paid dividends for them until now, with injuries decimating the team.
Moral of the story, if you want to play that way, you need to have a big, big club, with two starter quality players at every position.

  1. Agree, every year we have a set starting lineup and within 3 matches who the hell knows who is playing, not just one position, three or four. We’ll be lucky to finish top 8. We had chance to get Bellotti and we passed, He had one bad injury year, but overall very durable player. If I was Leao I would want out. …….off topic, I am curious why Brahim Diaz starts and is an important/reliable starting player for Real Madrid under Ancelotti ,yet was often and easily pushed around with Pioli……could it possibly be he is more effective having less pressure on him with the opposition being concerned with Bellingham and Rodrygo.
