Pellegatti gives worrying update on Maignan: “They tell me to expect not great news”

By Oliver Fisher -

Some worrying news has arrived regarding the condition of AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from the journalist Carlo Pellegatti.

Mike Maignan did start the game against Austria last night given that Hugo Lloris is out, but he was replaced at the interval. The Milan goalkeeper left the pitch at the Stade de France to make room for Alphonse Areola due to a problem in his left calf, and news is expected today or tomorrow.

Speaking on his YouTube channel (via SempreMilan.it), Pellegatti spoke about Maignan’s injury and the concern that currently filters from the club regarding the severity of the issue.

“I am optimistic by nature but I have to be realistic as a journalist. In the afternoon Maignan will be visited by Milan, but the first feelings regarding him are not positive,” he began.

“It appears more serious than it seemed. If it were just a tightening or a nuisance that resolves in a week, I will hug you all. They tell me to expect not great news.

“According to the UEFA regulations, if one of the goalkeepers sustains a problem with a prognosis that goes beyond a few days, it is possible to replace him by changing the UEFA squad list. One hypothesis is therefore that Stefano Pioli may decide to include Tatarusanu.”

Of course, until there is official communication on the extent of Maignan’s problem it is difficult to say whether the French goalkeeper will be available to Pioli for the next few matches against Empoli, Chelsea (x2) and Juventus, but Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante will be on stand-by.
