Zlatan Ibrahimovic has officially renewed his contract with AC Milan, as was announced by the club yesterday, and he will thus stay for one more year. The Swede’s new salary is quite telling of the situation.
As the 40-year-old – soon to be 41 – is currently recovering from serious knee surgery, Milan didn’t want to give him a huge salary. It certainly makes sense, given that Ibrahimovic will miss the entire first half of the season.
Therefore, parties were able to reach an agreement on the basis of €1m plus bonuses per year. The bonuses are related to goals and assists for Ibrahimovic and with good numbers, the salary could increase quite a lot.
As was highlighted by Gazzetta Dello Sport this morning (see photo below), Ibrahimovic’s salary at Milan throughout the years has changed quite a lot. From €9.5m per year between 2010 and 2012 to now €1m per year.
