Stefano Pioli’s men bagged all three points in their game against Empoli and thus maintained the pressure on their Scudetto rivals. And for the manager, it was also a special win for a very different reason.
As was highlighted by AC Milan on their official website after the game (read all the key stats here), Pioli reached 600 goals scored by his teams in Serie A. He’s only the seventh manager to have reached that milestone in the three-points-per-win era.
Although the Rossoneri haven’t been that clinical in the last few weeks, they have indeed scored a lot of goals under the management of Pioli. They are still in the Scudetto race and they are not going to get a better chance than this, with just nine games left.
Milan’s next four games are against Cagliari (A), Bologna, Torino (A) and Genoa and they will be decisive for the Scudetto race. After that, some ‘tougher’ games await and confidence will be needed heading into that period.
