Pioli challenges Calhanoglu to do more: “He hasn’t reached his potential yet”

Hakan Calhanoglu played a key part in Milan’s win over Benevento last night as he scored the elusive opener. The Turkish international now has two goals in his last three games, showing glimpses of his peak.

The No.10 has received some criticism lately after what was such a fantastic first half of the season. The COVID-19 stop changed everything for him as he hasn’t looked like himself since then, but he’s starting to come back now.

In an interview with DAZN after the game last night, as cited by MilanNews, Stefano Pioli spoke about what Calhanoglu means for the team. He also made it clear that the former Bayer Leverkusen man has a lot more to give on the pitch.

“He hasn’t reached his potential yet. I really like him because he combines quantity and quality, he works for the team, he still needs to find a little more precision in assists but he’s finding that awareness that he didn’t have in the past.

“For me, he’s a double-digit player, for his technique he has all the qualities to succeed, but not only for goals, also for assists,” he stated.

Milan will take on Juventus next and it would be a big boost to have Calhanoglu in good form, as he can link up well with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
