Mike Maignan is currently recovering from a calf injury and this process has taken a lot longer than AC Milan expected. In fact, they still don’t know when the Frenchman will be back in action.
The goalkeeper has been out for quite some time now but he was expected to be back for Milan’s winter friendlies. That never happened, as the medical staff found that the calf didn’t respond as expected to the treatment.
Amid all the rumours surrounding the position, Stefano Pioli was asked about Maignan’s condition during his press conference earlier today. The update he provided wasn’t exactly positive in nature.
Timeline for Maignan…
“We don’t have a timeline, we’re going with the evaluations that the staff are making. I can’t say today if it will be in 2-3-4-5 weeks. Mike has all our support and is very eager, but he knows that we have to respect the timing because the muscle hasn’t responded as it should have.”
In the meantime, Devis Vasquez was at Milanello today and participated in part of the training session. It remains to be seen if he will get the chance soon, as it will depend on his displays in training. Ciprian Tatarusanu remains the No.2 for now.
This Maignan injury has become nothing short of scandalous. At this rate he’ll only play 1/3 of a season. He missed a bunch of weeks last season. It’s become a disturbing trend with him, but injuries in general have also been a disturbing trend with us. Figuring this out needs to be made a priority above almost all else, as any players we bring in won’t have anybody to play with or will get injured themselves.
