Pioli downplays performances of Leao and Paqueta in dramatic draw against SPAL

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli downplayed the idea that Wednesday night’s draw against SPAL could be a huge turning point for Lucas Paqueta and Rafael Leao.

Paqueta put a real shift in during Wednesday’s dramatic 2-2 draw with relegation-battlers SPAL in what was a rare start for the Brazilian.

He was awarded a 6.5 out of 10 in our player ratings, with the following comment: “A positive overall performance where he showcased his impressive skillset early on but as the game wore on, and SPAL committed more and more to defending, his frustrating decision-making appeared again, resulting in some awful shots taken.”

Leao meanwhile once again started from the bench but made a significant impact after coming on at half-time, scoring an important goal to half the deficit.

He got a 6.5 out of 10 in our player ratings, and Stefano Pioli was asked about what that game could mean for the aforementioned duo moving forward.

“All games must be [a big chance] for every Milan player. Leao is doing well, he prefers to play more out of the area, more open, we will see what choice to make tomorrow,” he said (via MilanNews).

Will Paquetà still be a starter against Lazio?

“All the choices I make will not be conditioned only by previous performances, but also because in every game you will need a fresh team.”
