Tuttosport: Pioli could field an ’emergency’ Milan attack against Salernitana

AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli may find himself fielding an ’emergency’ attack in the match against Salernitana as a lack of forwards becomes an issue, a report claims.

As has been reported by Tuttosport today (via Milan News), Pioli may have a selection headache at the resumption of Serie A when Milan face Salernitana on January 4.

It is known that both Divock Origi and Zlatan Ibrahimovich will not be able to take part in the match as they will not have recovered from their injuries.

Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud will only be returning to Milanello after his post-World Cup rest on December 30, which means that his fitness on January 4 cannot be guaranteed and he may need to start on the bench.

The first option seems to be using Ante Rebic as the striker, but there is also a chance that Pioli may try to use Charles De Ketelaere as a false nine, which would give him a chance to impress in a new role.

  1. Rebic scored a brace against Udinese when fielded as a line striker. CDK has done nothing in bunches of matches. The WC didn’t help Charlie either. I’d start Rebic and put Charlie on if either striker or trequartista needs to come off.

    1. I agree with you. Rebic is also a stamina monster with good pressing skill, which was crucial to stop many attacks in the past. CDK has no muscles to go brute force, and he is not a fighter yet.

  2. I’d use Rebic as false nine with Brahim as AWM behind him (with no dedicated CF). They kinda complete each other better. Also, it would help to stop Salernitana’s build-ups at the very beginning.
