AC Milan’s 4-2 win against Udinese didn’t just confirm their strength as a team, but also the individual developments. Brahim Diaz and Ante Rebic were the protagonists in attack, leaving Stefano Pioli with a headache.
Even just a few weeks back, not many would have predicted that those two would lead Milan to their first win of the season. Last season was a tough one for both of them and yesterday’s displays were certainly a clear response to the critics.
It will be difficult for Pioli to bench either of them next week, when Milan will take on Atalanta, and that in itself is positive. Healthy competition can only bring a team forward and that is exactly the situation the Rossoneri find themselves in right now.
For the No.10 role, the manager can choose between Diaz, Charles De Ketelaere and Yacine Adli. The latter is at the bottom of the pecking order but he impressed during pre-season and he can certainly fight his way up.
As for the No.9 role, he has Rebic, Divock Origi and Olivier Giroud at his disposal. A lot will most likely depend on the tactical plan, but when a player is in the form that Rebic is in, that aspect usually goes out the window. Of course, both Rebic and Origi are also options for the left-wing.
In short, the selection for the attack is now plentiful and it remains to be seen what decisions Pioli will make for the Atalanta game. Perhaps De Ketelaere could start to the right, thus allowing Diaz to keep his spot in the middle.
