Pioli admits Milan must ‘bounce back’ against Spezia after ‘demanding’ UCL clashes

By Isak Möller -

Stefano Pioli spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s important clash against Spezia this evening. The Rossoneri are poised to win as Napoli managed to beat Atalanta earlier today, meaning the gap is currently nine points.

Milan did really well to beat Salzburg mid-week but will now have to shift focus to the league and their clash against Spezia tonight. Three important points are at stake, especially since Napoli won their game against Atalanta to ensure they will remain at least six points ahead of the Rossoneri.

They play a Spezia side that have not only failed to pick up a single point away from home so far this season but they haven’t even scored a goal on the road yet either, but they did emerge 2-1 in the same fixture back in January after the controversial disallowed Junior Messias goal.

Speaking to Sky Italia, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli shared his thoughts on the game and also the encounter between these two sides last season.

On last year’s match…

“Last season, another match… I haven’t thought about it at all. We come from a defeat in the league, we want to bounce back immediately.”

How’s this Milan doing?

“From what I’ve seen my players are fine, the choices I made are based on the conditions of them.”

On Origi…

“Physically and mentally he’s fine. H’s a strong player, I always expect a lot from my players. He’s ready to play a good match ”.

The goal from here to the break…

“We cannot make the mistake of looking too far ahead. We have gone from two very demanding games in the Champions League and we have done less well in the league, tonight we want to show that we can do well in both competitions.”
