Simon Kjaer is expected to play from start tomorrow and in recent days, a telling stat has been making the rounds on social media. With the Dane on the pitch, AC Milan have only conceded one goal this season.
The experienced centre-back has made nine appearances for the Rossoneri this season, eight of them from start. With him on the pitch, Milan have only conceded one goal and it came against Empoli, who scored a free-kick.
These are stats that one simply can’t ignore and during today’s press conference, which you can read in full here, Stefano Pioli was asked about Kjaer’s importance. He pinpointed one aspect that makes him such a good centre-back for the team.
“When the numbers are clear, they are never a coincidence. Simon is a leader. There’s one very important aspect, which is that he speaks well on the pitch. He knows how to get his teammates into the right positions. He’s a player who gives us a lot in this aspect,” he stated.
Milan will face Fiorentina tomorrow at 18:00 CET and Kjaer is expected to start the game. It’s the final game ahead of the World Cup, so there’s really no use for Pioli to rest any of his players.
I see no surprises in this as he is both instrumental in ac milan and for that matter for the danish international team. denmark has not lost much in the last 4-5 years and we also played a qualification where there hadnt been scored against us til the final match played if i remember correctly so kjærs importance should never be downlayed in my view and milans resurgence is as much his as its zlatans.
Hopefully with a bit of luck a future world cup winner as well 🙂
With him and or Maignan our defence perform so much better simply because they have this commanding nature and get the better of his teammates.
Tomori should learn this from him and not to keep whining over WC exclusion
