Pioli offers update on Gabbia after negative COVID test – when he should be back

By Isak Möller -

Matteo Gabbia has tested negative for COVID-19. Just before the derby against Inter, the youngster tested positive and was forced to isolate himself, and Milan were lucky that Alessio Romagnoli had returned at the point.

However, the defender wasn’t included in the squad for tomorrow’s game against Udinese, with the reason being that he isn’t in the best physical shape. Gigio Donnarumma and JP Hauge, who recovered quickly, were both included in the squad.

That being said, it shouldn’t take too long before Gabbia is back again. During the usual press conference, as cited by MilanNews.it, Stefano Pioli was asked about the young defender and when he should be back in action.

“Gabbia will not be available tomorrow, I hope he will be with us for Lille. We were very short in defence, I have forced Romagnoli and Kjaer to play a lot. It’s good to have more players available,” he stated.

Udinese-Milan will start at 12:30 tomorrow and the Rossoneri will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 24 games. Furthermore, they could cement their spot at the top of the standings for at least one more week.
