Pioli says Pobega can give Milan ‘very important physicality’ in midfield

By Isak Möller -

Tommaso Pobega has returned from his recent loan spell at Torino and he was present at Milanello today for the first training session of the pre-season. Afterwards, he was praised by manager Stefano Pioli.

Milan are reportedly looking for a midfielder on the market to replace Franck Kessie, who has joined Barcelona, but many have forgotten Pobega. The youngster did really well on loan at Torino last season and is eager to prove himself.

Speaking during the press conference, which you can read in full here, Stefano Pioli shared his thoughts on Pobega and what he can give this Milan side. By the sounds of it, he could compete for a starting spot.

“Pobega is back and he had a great season, he can give us a very important physicality in the middle of the field. If he can break through like Tonali? I hope so. He has grown a lot. He has good characteristics, he can do well with us,” he stated.

For Torino, Pobega played both as a defensive midfielder and as an attacking one, meaning he’s quite versatile. This is something that Pioli appreciates and we have seen that in the past with a player like Rade Krunic.

  1. from what i can recollect then pobega pretty much bossed kessie in one of our games so he deffently can add some psysicality and if he does get enough minutes im confident that he will prove his worth as a valuable player for the team for years to come.

    1. I would bet anyone he will be actually better than Kessie within 2 years. He is 3 years younger, strong and can play football. I would only love if we sold Cashie to Tottenham but he refused the transfer and showed what he thinks about Milan.

      1. crorossonero Yeah I agree and also believe that he has the possibility of being better than kessie in two years time as he has the better basic talent than the ivorian. Kessie was amazing in 20/21 season and especially towards the end where he actually dd make some very technical moves with the ball even nutmegging a player and then dribling down the wing but hasnt really seen it since or before then so i think we we will be fine without him. I always supported the player but after his olympics comment of wanting to stay and then seeing him completely withdraw on his promise i lost every single ammount of respect for him so im glad we are rid of the player.

    2. This is exactly why in my opinion if we get an attacking midfielder I don’t get the point of spending an additional 20 Mil on a CM

      1. I wouldnt mind seeing sanches in milan but that could also mean that we would play him in various positions like cm or cam rolle and if that were to exclude the possibility of us getting cdk then i certainly would oppose that idea but yeah it could also limit pobegas role which wouldnt be ideal either.
I would be satisfied if we invested all of our cash on berradi and cdk + bacup cb + added belotti on top of that as we already added adli, origi and have pobega back so i cant really say that i disagree in regard of investing 20 mil on another cm.

  2. Renato would have been an upgrade to Kessie but with Pobega he will need time and if he’s given that time he will be better past both Kessie and Renato .

  3. I hope they use him
    I hope they trust him
They don’t have to get those lunatic with so much money and they don’t love shirt

  4. Look at these crack smoking fans. I laugh everytime….

…one wanted Kessie to be sold to Tottenham. Well if that had happened (assuming he means January) we wouldn’t have won the Scudetto.

…another thinks Renato Sanches is better than Kessie. 😂😂😂😂😂Renato Injury Sanches is no way close to Kessie. You’ll notice a hole in midfield this season and just remember, that was where Kessie would have been.

Wrt potential, of course Pobega can be better than Kessie eventually or Kessie can still be better than him and improve or Pobega could be trash or Kessie could be trash. U never know.

I’m sorry. I think objectively, not with hatred that he’s gone to another team for free.

    1. You seem to imply that what i said is mere speculation and dismisses it on that ground and to be fair that would be a reasonable approach had it not been for the fact that you clearly speculates in regard of crossoneros comment yourself as none of us knows if we would have won the scudetto without him had we sold him in january so make up your mind of what is a valid way to argument as you cant have both.

Pobega is a two footed rather energetic player with great physique and overall good in all areas of the game.
Kessie greatly depends on his strength and ability to cover the ball.
