Pioli insists Rebic is ‘important’ for Milan and names the winger’s key strengths

By Isak Möller -

In the last few weeks, following what was a tough period of injuries, we have seen more of Ante Rebic and what he can do. He remains an important player for Milan and this was highlighted by Stefano Pioli today.

In the last four games, Rebic has come off the bench around the 70th-minute mark and he has shown glimpses of his brilliance. Against Verona last weekend, for example, he should have had an assist as he set Junior Messias up with a lovely pass.

During his press conference, which you can read in full here, Pioli was asked about Rebic and the peculiar season the Croatian has had. The manager insisted that he’s an important player for Milan.

“Ante is a player of very important quality in terms of his technique, physicality and character. He had more problems this year but now he’s very well, he’s an important player for us,” he stated.

Milan will take on Atalanta at 18:00 CEST tomorrow and we will most likely get to see Rebic off the bench. As Zlatan Ibrahimovic only has ten minutes in his legs, Rebic might replace Olivier Giroud first and then drop down to left-wing.

    1. He isn’t that far in terms of scoring and assists, you have to take into account minutes played. Rebić has an ok output considering he played maybe 10 full matches.

  1. other than a month or so ago when he scored with his feet ,Giroud is basically one dimensional “to head or not to head”,with Rebic at the 10 he becomes your “false 9” , he is good with both feet, strong with back to goal, is a threat enough to be marked by two and has enough sense to find the open man. I know I will go out on a limb here but believe Saele. will finally find the net. Viva Milano

  2. Rebic can do it all. Score from outside the box (he had the late equalizer to salvage that 2-2 draw from outside the box); score from headers (Juventus late equalizer early this season); score on counterattacks using his speed (at Anfield vs Liverpool in CL).

He can assist with through balls, give and gos, flick passes, chips/crosses with either foot.

He is the best on our team at pressing. He’s always full of running and he’s so physical — he gets under opponents’ skin by smashing them w/ his shoulder.

He so versatile that he can play the sole forward position, either wing position and CAM.

Now that it appears he’s finally fully healthy again, he needs to play more minutes. He should come on for Giroud at halftime, not 70th minute.

  3. We have to keep rebic at all costs b/cos he is an important player

The player that he is after deby and he has a full confidence on opponents
