Pioli reveals what Reijnders and Musah told him after ‘physical’ Verona clash

AC Milan managed to clinch all three points against Hellas Verona yesterday afternoon, thanks to an early goal from Rafael Leao. After the game, Stefano Pioloi revealed that a couple of the new signings were surprised.

It was a very physical game from start to finish, with both sides getting stuck in and constantly disrupting the play. In other words, it wasn’t pretty and some of the players didn’t get as much time on the ball.

Speaking to MilanTV after the game (read in full here), Pioli revealed that the new signings Yunus Musah and Tijjani Reijnders were surprised by the strength of Verona. Especially the Dutchman struggled to impose himself.

“The lads are settling in well but the process isn’t done yet. At the end of the game, Tijjani and Yunus told me ‘Gaffer, it’s tough in Italy, it’s so hard to beat your man because they are so aggressive and physical’. These difficulties can be overcome, they will grow with every game. They need more time to understand the system,” he stated.

Musah was one of the better players for Milan, winning duels and bursting down the right-hand side. However, it’s clear that he still needs time to adapt to the Rossoneri’s system, just like Reijnders (who could be the No.6 in the next few games).
