Pioli reveals previous relationship issues with Kessie and defends Ibrahimovic’s ‘positive anger’

AC Milan managed to claim all three points against Parma this evening, coming back from behind to eventually win by a two-goal margin. Certainly, Stefano Pioli should be happy about the performance in the second half.

That being said, the Rossoneri perhaps could have done a bit better in the first half. They started well but lost momentum as Parma created a few chances and the away side took the lead with just a few minutes to go of the half.

Luckily, Pioli’s men turned it around quickly in the second half, scoring their first and second goal within just four minutes. As Bologna claimed a draw against Napoli, Milan are now on the same points as the latter in the race for a top-five finish.

Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as cited by MilanNews.it, Pioli praised his players for the reaction in the second half, turning around a complicated game. Take a look at his interview below.

On the performance: “It was a complicated game, we knew of the difficulties of facing this opponent, good at closing and starting again. We also created several chances in the first half, we weren’t clear. We had a great reaction in the second half.”

On the post-lockdown numbers: “Ours was a necessary pat. We had given important signals already before the break, now we are reaping the benefits of these 5/6 months together, we are achieving important results but let’s not forget that five games that remain.”

On Kessie: “Franck and I had some relationship difficulties at the beginning, once we understood each other, he is proving to be a player of the highest level, he has presence and great quality. He is always present in difficult moments of the game, he is definitely a player very present in our game.”

On Ibrahimovic: “He demands the maximum from himself and from others. He is aware that the team is growing and is giving his best, on the field he becomes a lion, he gets very angry, sometimes out of turn but we know it, it is positive anger.”

On what has improved the most: “The mental strength of the team has grown a lot, the team are aware of their qualities. They try to be balanced and dangerous continuously, today we could pay duty but we grew up and we were in the game.”

On the future Donnarumma: “Nobody is talking about their future, we are concentrated in our present. But I see him calm, motivated, strong. Today he made a careful, determined performance. I see him very serene and motivated to stay at Milan. I want to enjoy this team, it’s a good team and it’s nice to work with them,” he concluded.
