Matteo Gabbia got the chance from start in AC Milan’s 2-0 win against Juventus and he provided the Rossoneri with guarantees in defence. Amid the injury crisis, it was just the performance Stefano Pioli wanted.
Due to the injuries of Alessandro Florenzi and Davide Calabria, Pioli moved Pierre Kalulu to the right-hand side as Sergino Dest hasn’t impressed at all. This also meant that Gabbia got the chance in the centre, and he certainly took that chance.
As highlighted by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Gabbia completely neutralised Juve’s star Dusan Vlahovic. The latter lost many aerial duels against the young Italian and was often beaten to the ball on the ground.
It was just the performance Pioli wanted ahead of the important Chelsea return, in which Gabbia is expected to start again. That way, Kalulu will be able to stay on the right and thus give Milan some more defensive stability on that side.
Tuesday’s game will be extremely interesting and Gabbia will have to continue like this, as not all of the fans are convinced yet.

Don’t mind those one who don’t know good strikers, I was happy that Milan failed to sign him, let the truth be told that guy is overrated, not fantastic. He hardly beat the defender, but he is a good power kick, not more. Giroud is better than him. On Gabbia; his a reliable defender even in 3men defence just put him in the centre. Him, salemaeker and Calabria are underrated. Gabbia pace is the problem, Slemaeker shooting at goal is the problem, very skilful, team player hope we all remember he is a defender who converted to an attacker, his work rate is something you can’t write off. Calabria is very ok at his work. Imagine if he’s playing in Madrid you will understand.
Gabbia already is a solid defender, he only needs more playing time to develop.
