Pioli says Thiaw will add ‘height’ and explains Leao’s role against Tottenham

With just 30 minutes left until kick-off, AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli spoke to the media about his side’s chances against Tottenham. He also explained how Rafael Leao could benefit from the formation.

After the win against Torino, the Rossoneri are looking to start a positive trend and tonight’s clash is indeed a big one. Since Tottenham have quite a few heavy absences, Milan have a better chance than first expected.

Speaking to Mediaset, as cited by MilanNews, Pioli touched on the fact that Malick Thiaw has been given the chance to start again. He also shared his thoughts on the game overall and how the 3-5-2 will benefit Leao.

Initial thoughts…

“The team is very determined, we have to play our style and give our best for every ball.”

On Thiaw…

“He did well against Torino. He fitted in well and gives us an important height. I’m sure he’ll be ready.”

On Tottenham…

“They have great qualities. We have to take care of all the details, we have to be careful and determined, as well as have faith in our qualities.”

On the match…

“We are starting again from a difficult but fascinating match. We are aware that we can do well.”

On Leao…

“He has more freedom with this formation. He has to be a link in the game, but also go deep. He has to move a lot, he has the qualities to do well.”

The likes of Lloris, Hojbjerg and Bentancur are all out of tonight’s clash for Tottenham and that means they have a rather inexperienced midfield. On the other hand, Milan failed to recover Ismael Bennacer and Fikayo Tomori for the game.
