Pioli makes bold admission: “Training with or without Zlatan is different”

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has admitted that training sessions with Zlatan Ibrahimovic are noticeably different to those without him.

It is well known that Ibrahimovic is a player with truly incredible charisma and personality having become one of the leaders of a group that is still very young. The Swede’s importance goes beyond his performances on the pitch and he has instilled a formidable mentality into the group, helping them recover from the rut of several years without Champions League football.

One man who knows this above all is Pioli, who has been able to lean on the impact of the 41-year-old during his tenure, almost having an additional coach at times. As PianetaMilan recall, the Milan boss spoke about Zlatan in his pre-match presser, starting with when he can start games agai.

“Even now, not for the whole game, but soon he will be able to do so. He has great desire, his return is very important for us. Training with or without Zlatan is different,” he said.

Pioli was also asked if it is mere coincidence that Mike Maignan and Ibra have returned at the same time as the team have returned to winning.

“No, there’s more: there’s the work and the quality of the players. Then we’re talking about players who raise the level of the team,” he said.

  1. So Zlatan is the one with the authority? He is the one who can make the team work harder. One who motivates them? And that incidentally coincides with Milan’s sudden rise of form… So what happens when he retires?
