Pobega discusses UCL exit and assures Milan want ‘best possible’ season finale

By Isak Möller -

Ahead of the clash between AC Milan and Sampdoria, Tommaso Ponbega spoke to the media about the Rossoneri’s situation. The top-four pursuit remains alive, but they will have to claim all three points today.

Milan are currently four points behind Lazio, who sit in fourth, and will most likely need a win today to keep their hopes alive. Lazio will take on Udinese tomorrow and if the Rossoneri were to drop points today, the Biancocelesti could seal the deal.

Speaking to MilanTV, as cited by MilanNews, Pobega shared his thoughts on getting knocked out of the Champions League. He also previewed tonight’s game, which he knows is absolutely crucial for Milan.

On getting knocked out of the Champions League…

“It was certainly a strong emotion, but the day after we immediately returned to the training ground and tried to prepare for this match in the best possible way. We want to finish the season in the best possible way. The goal now is to face today’s challenge with the utmost attention and lucidity to then prepare for the match against Juventus and then the one against Verona.”

On Sampdoria…

“In my opinion, they will play as they have in the last few games, fielding their best players. They will try to raise the level and aim for victory.”

Pobega will start on the bench today but he could make an appearance off the bench. In that case, he will have to be careful as he’s just one yellow card away from suspension, and Juventus are up next.
