Tommaso Pobega played from the first minute as AC Milan faced Monza at San Siro last night. The Rossoneri eventually won 4-1 and the young midfielder played a good game, receiving positive words from the newspapers.
Pobega gave Sandro Tonali some rest as he started alongside Ismael Bennacer, who managed to shake off a fever just before the game. As we have come to expect from the Italian, he added a physical presence in the midfield.
As compiled by MilanNews, he received positive words from the newspapers overall. Gazzetta Dello Sport gave him a 6.5 as he was ‘tireless, running back and forth without ever giving up’. Tuttosport gave the same rating as Pobega was ‘very loyal in maintaining his position’.
Corriere Della Sera, meanwhile, gave him a 6 as he stressed some of his decisions. He got the same rating in our player ratings not because he was poor, but because the technical ability was missing at times (a good physical display, though).
Tireless maybe…. but unfortunately also slow and clumsy. He continues to make 2 to 5 sloppy clumsy challenges and bad fouls every time he appears in a match and he’s been very lucky a number of times that the referees have taken mercy on him and not given him yellow cards when he probably deserved it.
His passing accuracy also has a lot to be desired.
I certainly hope he gets better and maybe during next summer works on his footwork/agility … he really could use an offseason of agility training so he’s not so clumsy next season. He has great size; but he needs to improve in that department to be able to utilize his size.
I get it, Italian bias and home grown player. But he’s an oafish midfielder. Not only the constant clumsy fouls but his runs into the box are poorly timed and he can’t hold the ball. He is often in the way of other players and his shot is wayward. He’s also too slow to get back leaving the midfield exposed. Sell him and sign Jorginho on a free over the summer.

Everybody talkin about patience about CDK, as we did with Tonali, Leao, Kessie, etc. So why can we say the same thing about Pobega?
It would be rational. But rational is not how things work here. 😉
